YOU THINK THAT HUMAN BEINGS IN GENERAL SHOULD BE
MORAL? WHY OR WHY NOT?
MORALITY AND ETHICS
 Ethics comes from the Greek ethos, meaning character.
 Morality comes from the Latin moralis , meaning customs or manners.
 Ethics, pertains to the individual character of a person or persons.
 Whereas morality seems to point to the relationships between
human beings.
 Ethical and Moral people---good people.
 Immoral or Unethical---bad people.
 When we refer to certain human actions as being moral, ethical,
immoral, and unethical, we mean that they are right or wrong.
ASPECTS OF MORALITY
1. Religious Morality
Religious morality refers to a human being in relationship to a supernatural
being or beings.
2.Nature and Morality
“Morality and nature” refers to a human being in relationship to nature.
• It has been prevalent in all primitive cultures.
• More recently, the Western tradition has also become aware of the significance of
dealing with nature in a moral manner.
ASPECTS OF MORALITY
3.Individual Morality
• It refers to individuals in relation to themselves.
• An individual code of morality that may or may not be sanctioned by any
society or religion.
4.Social Morality
• It concerns a human being in relation to other human beings.
• It is probably the most important aspect of morality, in that it cuts across all
of the other aspects and is found in more ethical systems than any of the
others.
WHY WE SHOULD BE MORAL?
 It will lead to a more equitable, just and harmonious society.
 People should maintain moral values including respect, integrity,
honesty and patience so as to lead a good and happy life.
 We should be moral for the sake of society by distinguishing
between bad or good. In society the religious culture and
individual ethics can be on the right way if everyone will be moral.
 For having self-respect as Only just and fair people, good, moral
people can make just and fair self-assessment.
WHY WE SHOULD BE MORAL?
• Because a Supernatural being said we should be moral.
• Enlightened self-interest. To know yourself better.
• Tradition and law have been given as a reason to be moral.
