ISLAM
ISLAM
Islam is different from the known world religions, for it is a
complete way of life which gives systemic regulations to the
entirety of human life.
The word Islam is not derived from any individual or society in
particular and it is named after the distinct ideology included in this
religion. Whoever recognizes these special characteristics, he may
belong to any tribe, society, language, race, and he will become a
Muslim. (Most of the global religions are originated from certain
society or region, i.e, Christian, Buddhism, Zoroastrianism,
Judaisme, etc)
THE MEANING OF THE WORD ISLAM
• Etymologically Islam is an Arabic term which means
obedience, surrender, total submission, peace etc. To be
a Muslim means to completely submit oneself to the will
of Almighty who is the creator and sustainer of the
universe. By submitting oneself in this way to the will of
Almighty one attains physical and mental health. This
gives peace of mind to the individual and it helps to
maintain peace in the society
THE BEGINNING OF ISLAM
• It has been started since Adam and Hawwa (stated in the quranic
index) “Get you down all from here. And if, as is sure, there come
to you Guidance from Me, Whosoever follow My guidance, on them
shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve, it shall have neither fear no
sorrow” (2:38)
• Prophets and preceptors of various religions (Noah, Hud, Swalih,
Daweed, Solomon, Joseph, Moses, Christ, Abraham etc) were all
spokespersons and practitioners of the Islamic way of life. It is
stated clearly in the Quran. No one can become a Muslim without
recognizing these prophets an the revealed books.
THE BASIC DOCTRINES OF ISLAM
• Islam=submission and obedience
• Believe in God (Alloh), Muhammad, Quran and Sunnah (Hadith)
• Quran=the final edition of all the revealed books to humanity
(original, pure and holy, cleared from all kinds of interferences), it
talks about all the life in a total way starting from belief, way of
life, ethical or moral rules, crimes, punishments, other social,
economic and political systems etc.
• The basic idea: The universe is not spontaneous, it has creator.
The universe and its contents are ruled by God. Only man can
violate the laws of God and select a life-style of his choice.
…
• It is necessary to clearly know and understand man can live based
on God’s rules and regulations.
• A person can be a Muslim and true believer by practicing the basic
principles (Iman) that is also called pillars of Islam
• Iman is the Arabic terminology of the word belief. It means to
know clearly and recognize with consciousness. The person who
has recognized this Iman is called a Mu’min. The final result of
Iman is that man becomes a Muslim who lives in obedience to God
only. Iman and Islam are complementary to each other and are
inseperable
…
• The chosen individuals by God and received his revelations are
known as the messenger and prophets. The prophets have been
appointed to lead the people forth to the true path hence their
teachings have to be followed. The method in which the
knowledge was revealed to the messenger is called wahy
revelation and the books containing the revealed knowledge is
called revealed books.
• Allah delivers his revelations to the prophets through his
messengers i.e. the angels. (Angels are spiritual beings created by
God to perform certain assigned duties.
…
• Islam makes one understand that whatever good or bad happens in
this universe is in accordance with His interest and His will.
• One must realize protection and punishment also from Alloh that
make him set his life in order systematically in pursuit of the
inevitable dream of a day of recompense.
• Islam believe in the life after death where his worldly life is
scrutinized and where the reward and punishment will be received
becomes unavoidable
• Mu’min believes in Creator, Angels, books, prophets, the day of
the judgement and predestination of God
THE PILLARS OF ISLAM
• Pronouncing the statement of testimony “Ashhadu anla ilaha illa
Allah wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasoolullah (I bear witness
that there is nobody except Allah who is worthy of worship based
on the power and highness, there is nobody worth to bow down
the heads in obedience and slavery than Allah and I bear witness
that Muhammad is the messenger of God. The word Allah is the
special name perfectly describing one God. Recognize that God
alone is the creator, sustainer, legislator of myself and the
universe in which I reside. Accept the life of the Prophet as the
model for truth and false. The meaning of aforesaid word of
testimony is to systemize life in this way.
…
• To maintain the five times prayer: Prayer is to be performed
without any hesitation five times a day in the morning, afternoon,
evening, sunset and night before going to sleep.
• To give Zakath: it means to give certain portion from one’s yearly
net saving to the rightful benefeciaries with the consciousness
that the fixed portion of his/her money belongs to the rightful
people around them. Zakath not only for gold and silver but also
for business goods, domestic animals, agricultural products.
Zakath has to be distributed among eight rightful beneficiaries
including the poor, travelers, debtors
…
• To fast in the month of Ramadan: Fasting is to abstain from food,
drinks and sexual intercourse from sunrise to sunset in the month
of Ramadan in a Calendar year. The importance factor of fasting is
to control the bodily instincts, movement etc.
• Perform Hajj: Hajj is a once in a lifetime ritual to be performed
by those who have the health and wealth to go to Mecca in Saudi
Arabia. Hajj is known as the pilgrimage to Mecca.
