Industry Problem
Ensure the semi-processed material is properly aligned at the
output without decreasing the productivity.
Problem
Statement
Goal
A semi-processed material which is properly aligned before
entering the 5 meter long furnace. However, it appeared to be
misaligned at the output. It is moved by metal mesh conveyor
belt. Since the furnace is hot and enclosed, no one knows what
happened inside.
Benefits if
problem
solved
• Workforce can be saved as no need to realign the semi-
processed material manually.
• Lead time can be decreased as no need waste time for
realignment.
• Hence, productivity can be increased.

• A list of substances
involved are stated.
• The interaction
between the
substances are
noted.
• A functional model is

5. Part 1a
Industry Problem
1st SOLUTION
• A new substance is added to S1 to
solve the insufficiency
• A holder/handle is added to solve the
insufficiency
• The holder can either a new part or
weld onto the metal mesh conveyor

6. • Engineering Contradiction Tool is
used for solving the problem too
• The first contradiction is
measurement accuracy
(improving parameter) versus
productivity (worsening
parameter)
• The second contradiction is
reliability versus productivity

2nd SOLUTION
Improving ParameterWorsening Parameter … 39
…
27 1, 35, 29, 38
28 10, 34, 28, 32
…
• Principle 10th suggested preliminary action,
means perform and reinforce the required
alignment before action.
• Similar with above solution, handle added.
• Principle 28th suggested mechanical
substitution, using camera sensor to do the
alignment with controlling of tensioning
bolts.
• Principle 35th suggested parameter changes.
The dimension at the entrance of furnace
embedded with sorting function. The size is
just fit for the material passes through so
that the alignment at output won’t run off.
7. Conclusion
• TRIZ can be utilized to solve the
alignment problem in this case.
• Among the potential solutions
purposed, the first and last solutions
are more applicable.
• 1. Add a handle/holder
2. Make the entrance and passage just
fit for the material to pass through.
• Problem solved!!
