This document discusses research on women and crime. It explores whether official crime statistics accurately portray gender differences in criminal behavior or are misleading. Several studies find evidence that the criminal justice system treats men and women differently, with women more likely to receive lenient treatment if they conform to social norms of femininity. Feminist researchers argue that biological factors alone do not explain gender differences in crime and that social and economic marginalization help account for increases in criminal behavior among women.
Machismo refers to a strong sense of masculine pride and the valuation of masculine characteristics over feminine ones. For Filipino men, machismo involves proving one's virility through unlimited sexual freedom before marriage, whereas women are expected to remain virgins. Negative implications of machismo include hypersexuality, alcoholism, paternalism, and violence, as machismo is associated with crime and lawlessness. However, the underlying historical values of machismo were responsibility, respect, community leadership, and defending family, referred to now as "caballerismo."
Boys during puberty experience new confusing feelings and urges, and often relate these to emotions they already understand, further adding to their confusion. They may see girls as possessions rather than understanding real relationships. Most boys do not experience healthy crushes until age 14. Girls are more sensitive during adolescence and have higher expectations in relationships. They are also more focused on self-image and social standing, and these can lead to issues like depression and eating disorders if self-consciousness becomes extreme. Adolescents experience a range of emotions and freedoms as they develop, reflecting the vastness of God's own nature.
This document discusses several social problems and issues in the Philippines. It outlines how social disorganization, economic conditions like poverty, and dysfunction can disrupt society. Poverty is defined as having insufficient resources to meet basic needs. Several theories of poverty are presented. Juvenile crime and delinquency in different forms are also examined. Other issues covered include prostitution, unemployment, gambling, sexual harassment, housing issues, and mail-order brides. The document provides an overview of key social problems in the Philippines.
Lesbian refers to a woman attracted to other women. Gay refers to a man attracted to other men. Bisexual refers to attraction to both males and females. Transgender is a general term for those whose gender identity differs from their birth sex. Several myths about LGBT people are dispelled by facts, including that homosexuality is not an illness that can be cured and that one's sexual orientation is determined early in life, not by seduction. While LGBT people experience higher rates of mental health issues and substance abuse, this is due to societal stress rather than sexual orientation itself.

leverproblemen
