"Count and Noncount nouns"

2. -Noncount: uncountable. a noun that is
uncountable cannot be made plural or used with
articles a / an.
Ex. water, bread, butter, cheese,
coffee, meat, rice,
information…..others.
We need bread….or We need a small loaf
of bread….We need two white loaves,
please
A slice: a thin flat piece of food that has been
cut off a larger piece. Ex. a slice of bread.

3. Other examples:
-I want some coffee please, with milk and sugar.
-There isn’t any coffee left.
-I like tea with lemon.
-Would you like tea or coffee?
-Do you take sugar in your tea?
-She wants to drink some orange juice.
-She wants to drink a glass of orange juice.
-Could I have a glass of water?

4. - We are having chicken for dinner.
- Have you ever held a chicken?
- We need glass for the window.
- Could I have a glass of water?

5. - Some nouns are either count or noncount,
depending on their meaning.
Ex. We are having some fish for lunch.
Yesterday my dad caught a fish.
a or an can be used with these nouns when they
are count nouns.
- Examples: some coffee. a cup of coffee. Some
cake. A piece of cake.

6. Chocolate. a hard brown sweet food made from
cocoa beans, used in cooking to add flavor to
cakes.
It is eaten as a sweet
a bar of chocolate
a piece of chocolate
a chocolate cake
a chocolate factory
a box of chocolates.
Ex. This candy was covered with chocolate.
We want some hot chocolate with milk and sugar.

7. One banana…….four bananas…..
A bunch of bananas…
a bunch of grapes…..
A bunch of flowers…
Please, buy a lettuce and some tomatoes.
- I need a dozen eggs. (do not use of).
