Design Modification and Analysis of Automobile Wheel Rim using Finite Element...ijsrd.com
Importance of wheel in the automobile is obvious. The vehicle may be towed without the engine but at the same time even that is also not possible without the wheels, the wheels along the tire has to carry the vehicle load, provide cushioning effect and cope with the steering control. Generally wheel spokes are the supports consisting of a radial member of a wheel joining the hub to the rim. Spokes make vehicles look great but at the same time they require attention in maintenance. To perform their functions best, the spokes must be kept under the right amount of tension. If a spoke does break, the wheel generally becomes instantly unbalanced also the hub may break. The purpose of the car wheel rim provides a firm base on which to fit the tire. The motorcycle riders are subjected to extreme vibrations due to the vibrations of its engine, improper structural design of the motorcycle and the bad road conditions. So in this project the attempt has been made to reduce the vibrations of vehicle by providing springs instead of the spokes at the wheel. The springs will work as suspension members at wheels as well as they will provide proper strength that is adequate to proper operation of the wheel. The CAD model of a motor cycle will be made in solid works and later it is analyzed in ANSYS 14.5. The results of suspension of ordinary wheel rim and spring based rim will be compared.
An example of using FEA to improve a series of automotive wheel designs. Wheels must pass durability tests to be certified for use. This family did not pass the tests and a large investment had been made in tooling. The company did not want this investment to go to waste and assigned me the task to resolve the issue soon after hiring me. This is a brief outline of the changes made to improve the wheel such that all tests were passed. It should be noted that all work was done virtually and all tests were passes first time after tooling modifications.

The Development Division constantly seeks to manufacture new cars by developing next-generation technology and responding sensitively to ever-changing environment and lifestyle trends. The division pursues concept, styling and design in a quest to realize the ideal car. This persistent spirit of development is the source which gives birth to next-generation cars. The Development Division is responsible for planning and visual design which bring satisfaction to customers, as well as the technical design, testing and evaluation process which support the product appeal. These various functions are made possible by the teamwork of the division.

Road users have long been known to fall asleep whilst driving. Driving long hours can induce fatigue causing lack of concentration and occasionally road accidents. Up to 20% of fatal crashes may be linked to driver fatigue. Our model presented a low-cost and simple distributed force sensor that is particularly suitable for measuring grip force and hand position on a steering wheel. The sensor can be used in automotive active safety systems that aim at detecting driver’s fatigue, which is a major issue to prevent road accidents. The key point of our approach is to design a prototype of sensor units, so that it can serve as platform for integrating different kinds of sensors into the steering wheel.
The Wall Street Journal on October 10, 2013 reported an old problem in the automotive industry. Some cars are suitable for tall drivers while others are not. The same is true for short drivers. The industry follows a design process developed in the 1950s that uses a tool defined by a tall man’s legs and average man’s torso to create a position in the car interior about which all structures are placed. This “design position” has been incorporated into Federal regulations and has created an approach to design that is based entirely upon position. Mary Barra, GM’s product chief, spoke of this position problem in a 2012 interview at the North American International Auto Show, when she talked about poorly placed dashboard buttons that lowered a car’s reputation for quality. Then, in 2012, J D Power’s APEAL survey found that seat design is as unsatisfactory to owners as the infotainment systems in cars yet seat quality, i.e. manufacturing, is at historical highs. The combination of poorly placed dashboard buttons with seat dissatisfaction leads to the conclusion that the absence of seated driver models in interior design is a problem for the auto industry. Research at Michigan State University in the 1990s uncovered that this approach does not include seat design nor use any seated drivers to develop the interior layout. As part of this research program, it was also learned that the seat constrains driver sitting postures and directly affects the driver’s section of seat position, steering wheel position, and eye location. Thus, to establish interior design without a seat directly contributes to the difficulty drivers experience in finding a car that fits.
Car electronization trend in automotive industryKenji Suzuki
As EV/HEV and other alternative powertrain gaining popularity, more and more electronics are adopted in a vehicle. Until recently, such electronics were supplied mainly by "conventional" tier1s and tier2s in the industry. However, the increase in electronics used in a vehicle is opening up the door for consumer electronics manufacturers to join.
What does it mean in terms of reliability and durability of a vehicle. What needs to be done for reliability and durability assessment.
J. D. Power survey reports seats in car are next to last in satisfaction despite historical high in quality. Add-on content to basic seat design does not change satisfaction rank. Since seats are for sitting, drivers must not be able to sit as they prefer. Car seat design guidelines must improve accommodation for variation in sitting postures.

Human factors and ergonomics (HF&E), also known as comfort design, functional design, and systems, is the practice of designing products, systems, or processes to take proper account of the interaction between them and the people who use them.
The field has seen contributions from numerous disciplines, such as psychology, engineering, bio-mechanics, industrial design, physiology, and anthropometry. In essence, it is the study of designing equipment and devices that fit the human body and its cognitive abilities. The two terms "human factors" and "ergonomics" are essentially synonymous

The autonomous vehicle, driverless or self-driving car will be one of the greatest technological developments of the next decade (if not all time).
It will profoundly change life on earth.
For the past century our car-centric culture has shaped infrastructure and ideals, landscape and lifestyle, ethics and enterprise. We rely on the mobility that cars provide us more than ever, but the car’s purpose and meaning changes as the driver fades out.
When the car drives itself, what we do in our cars and with our cars is exponentially different. When the car is intelligent, intuitive and adaptive, our relationship to the car alters. When the car builds itself, environments and economies are reshaped.
This report looks at the players, technologies and trends in the autonomous vehicle space and paints a picture of probable futures for citizens, businesses and marketers.
Buckle up. Bumpy roads ahead.
