LONDON TOURISTIC ATRACCIONS
In this presentation we will talk about some of the
tourist attractions in London. Here we present:
London eyes, London Tower , Tower Bridge and British
London Eye
The London Eye aka Millennium Wheel, is an observation wheel located
135 m on the western end of Jubilee Gardens, on the South Bank of the
Thames, London Borough of Lambeth, between Westminster and
Hungerford Bridges .
Cost 70 million pounds
Built: 1999 - 2000
Height: 135 m.
Diameter: 120 m.
LONDON TOWER
The Tower of London , officially the Royal Palace and Fortress of Her
Majesty, is a historic castle on the north bank of the River Thames in
central London, England. It lies within the London Borough of Tower
Hamlets, separated from the northern boundary of the city open space
known as Tower Hill. It was founded in late 1066 as part of the Norman
conquest of England. The White Tower, which gives
its name to the entire castle, was built by William
the Conqueror in 1078, becoming a symbol of
oppression in London by the new ruling elite.
Since at least 1100, the castle was used as a prison,
but was not the primary purpose.
TOWER BRIDGE
The Tower Bridge is a bascule bridge in London over the River Thames.
It is situated near the Tower of London, which gives it its name
The bridge is maintained by Bridge House Estates, a company with no
profit under the trusteeship of Corporation of London, one the city
council of the City of London.
It has appeared in movies such as Spice World ( 1997), The Parent Trap,
The Mummy , Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, The Wolf
Man (2010 ) , Sherlock Holmes (2009 ) and also anime series such as
Kinnikuman (Musculman) and Kuroshitsuji, this being the "special
power" Robin Mask.
BRITISH MUSEUM
The British Museum is a museum of the city of London, UK, one of the
most important and visited museums in the world. Its collections cover
various fields of human knowledge such as history, archeology,
ethnography and art.
The museum was one of the first institutions of its kind in Europe.
It has the largest reading room of the British Library , a library that
although now has its own headquarters , until 1973 also part of the
museum, like the Natural History Museum, London , which changed its
own headquarters in
MADAME TUSSAUDS
Madame Tussauds London is a museum and tourist
attraction located in Central London, housed in the
former London Planetarium. It is known for recreating
life size wax models of celebrities.
Set up by wax sculptor Marie Tussaud on Marylebone
Road in 1884 it is the first Madame Tussauds.

THE LONDON DANGEON
The London Dungeon is a London tourist attraction which
recreates various gory and macabre historical events in
a gallows humour style aimed at younger audiences. It uses a
mixture of live actors, special effects and rides.
Opening in 1974, it was initially designed as a museum
of macabre history, but the Dungeon has evolved to
become an actor-led, interactive experience. The
Dungeon is operated by Merlin Entertainments. In
2013, the London Dungeon moved from its premises on
Tooley Street to a new location near County Hall and
the London Eye.
The River Thames
The River Thames is a river that flows through southern
England. It is the longest river entirely in England and the
second longest in the United Kingdom. While it is best known
for flowing through London, the river also flows alongside
other towns and cities, including Oxford, Reading, Henley-on-
Thames, and Windsor.
With a total length of 236 miles (380 km), the Thames
is the longest river entirely in England and the second
longest in the United Kingdom. It rises at Thames Head
in Gloucestershire, and flows into the North Sea via the
Thames Estuary. On its way, it passes through London,
the country's capital, where the river is deep and
navigable to ships
National Gallery
The National Gallery or National Gallery is the principal museum of art
of London placed in Trafalgar Square's north part European painting
Exhibits from 1250 to 1900, proceeding from the national collection of
art of the United Kingdom The permanent collection, which consists of
2.300 paintings, belongs to the British State.
“National Portrait Gallery”
It is one of the most famous museums in London . Not to be confused with the National
Portrait Gallery in Washington , United States.
It was founded in 1856 with the Victorian spirit of idealism and education by example the aim
of the collection was to gather portraits of the great and powerful of Britain to inspire others.
At first , that the portrait was included in the collection, the character must have died . The
gallery moved to its current building , north of Trafalgar Square in 1896. The first extension was
opened by Lord Duveen in 1933 and is a wing that runs Orange Street; the second extension
opened in 2000 and was conducted by Christopher Ondaatje. The Ondaatje Wing occupies a
space between between nineteenth-century buildings of the National Gallery and the building
of the National Portrait Gallery, and is notable for its
two-story escalator that takes visitors to the oldest
part of the collection, Tudor portraits.
TATE MODERN
Tate Modern is the name by which there is known the National British Museum of Modern Art. It is
located in the center of London and forms a part of the group of museums Tate together with Tate
Britain, Tate Liverpool and Tate St Ives, these two last ones placed out of London.
It is lodged in the former head office of energy of Bankside, originally designed by sir Giles Gilbert
Scott and constructed in two phases between 1947 and 1963. The electric power station was closed
in 1981 and the building was re-converted into museum by the Swiss architects Herzog and of
Meuron, who after they turning out to be victors in an international contest gave to the building his
current image.
From his opening on May 12, 2000 one has turned
into the second major attraction of Londres.3 4
Into 2007 it was the museum of modern art most
visited of the world and the third party in
general, after the Museum of the Louvre
of Paris and the British Museum also of London,
with 5.2 millions of visitantes.5 6 The entry is free
for the permanent exhibition, whereas the temporary
exhibitions are free or of payment depending
on his character.
