This document contains two passages with exercises on identifying and using prepositions. The first passage is about the importance of soil for life. It discusses how plants grow in soil and how animal and plant matter enrich the soil. The second passage contains exercises to fill in blanks with appropriate prepositions from a given list to complete sentences about various topics like work, sports, and health.

1. Preposition: HO-9.3.3
Section-A: Read the passage carefully and identify the prepositions. Follow the use of them in
the passage.
All of our food comes from the soil. Some of us eat meat. Of course, but animals live on plants. If
there were no plants we should have no animals and no meat. So the soil is necessary for life. The
top of the ground is usually covered with grass or other plants. There may be dead leaves and
dead plants on the grass. Plants grow in soil which has a dark color. The dark is humus. Humus
contains materials taken from dead plants and the matters from animals also fall on it. This gives
its color. The soil under the humus is not dark. This lighter soil is rather like sand, it is made of
bits of rock. All soil needs food. If we do not give it any, the plants will be weak. Animal waste is
the best food for the soil.
