The Roman civilization was founded by people living along the Tiber River in Italy. The Romans played an important role in connecting eastern and western trade and culture. The major occupations in Rome included agriculture, cattle rearing, pottery making, trade, weaving, and arts and crafts. Romans built aqueducts, which were like bridges, to transport water across river basins. They worshipped gods like Vesta, Jupiter, Mars and Juno who protected the home, gave rain, assured victory in war, and protected women, respectively.
