Raw Edges's official collaboration started after many years of sharing life, thoughts and ideas. Yael’s main focus includes turning two-dimensional sheet materials into functional forms, whereas Shay is fascinated by how things move, function and react.
Raw-Edges received several highly respected awards including The British Council Talented Award, iF Gold Award, Dutch Design Award, Wallpaper Design Award in 2009 and the Elle Decoration International Design Award for best furniture of 2008/09. Most recent one, the Designer of the Future Award for 2009 from Design Miami-Basel.
Their works have been exhibited at Johnson Trading Gallery in New York, FAT Galerie in Paris, Scope Art Fair in Basel and in the Spazio Rossana Orlandi of Milan. Their designs can be found in the permanent collection of the MoMa of New-York and The Design Museum of London, and in production with Cappellini, Established & Sons and Arco. Yael and Shay are also involved in producing unique and limited-edition designs in their own studio in London.
Massimo Orsino born in Reggio Emilia in 1967 and grown up in Sassuolo (MO), the ceramic district for excellence, after graduating he joins very young the family business and he learns everything one needs to know about tiles production, and cooperates with all the different productive realities. The innate curiosity leads him to explore all different technical and management aspects, and to build his own professional career, reaching the office of CEO.
This is the final project work I developed with my collegues during the "Events and training management" course in Rome. It relates to a fashion event in Milan for the presentation of a new fashion brand.

Non più imperatori, pontefici o industriali, ma
gruppi finanziari nelle vesti di mecenati del
consumo.
con prontezza: 1997, New York, Metropolitan
Museum, retrospettiva dedicata al lavoro di
Gianni Versace; 1999-2000, esposizione itinerante dei prodotti dell’estro di Issey Miyake;
No longer emperors, popes or industrialists,
but financial groups are now appearing in the
guise of patrons of art. Patrons attentive to aesthetic quality, open to experimentation, to technological innovation, inspired by a single
objective: that of appearance, of distinguishing
the image of their company in a global market
swarming with icons.
Within this context, the most prestigious fashion showrooms are being renovated. Famous artists are being called upon to create
settings designed to express an identity. The
concept of the shop is now that of an advertising icon purposely studied to win renown and
to serve as container of spaces for entertainment, cultural events and exhibitions of contemporary artists, thus conferring on a trade
name cultural significance and credibility.
To the summons of a financially consolidated
clientele, the world of art has promptly responded: 1997, New York, Metropolitan Museum, retrospective show dedicated to Gianni
Versace; 1999-2000, itinerant exhibition of the
products created by Issey Miyake; 2001, New
York, Guggenheim Museum, anthological
show of Giorgio Armani’s work in the twentyfifth year of his career.
For the first time, spaces traditionally consecrated to art are opening their doors to fashion
designers. What does this mean? Perhaps all
this may be the first recognition of a “new art”?
Or perhaps, in the contemporary media culture, fashion has become a phenomenon that
guides tendencies and proposes a lifestyle of its
own?

sodalizio.
Pechino, Tokyo e Vienna.
cosmetici, arredamento, selezioni editoriali,
composizioni floreali...
materializzando l’identità aziendale in architettura costruita.

Culture and fashion, “the sacred and the profane” are approaching and intermingling.
Within this architectural context, with its specific physical nature and its force, a relationship of virtuous collaboration with the world of
fashion is now being established; a partnership
is being born.
A clear expression of this trend can be seen in
the Armani shops realized in recent years, all
over the world, in perfect harmony with the
stylist’s aesthetics.
Entering one of these shops means crossing
the threshold of reality to find oneself in
another universe where each detail expresses
his style. The decisions of the architect are dictated by the mark: Claudio Silvestrin for “Armani” in Barcelona, Florence, London, Moscow, Paris, Rome, Sao Paolo, Seoul, Beijing,
Tokyo and Vienna. Massimiliano and Doriana
Fuksas for “Emporio Armani” in Hong Kong,
door to the Chinese market on which to knock,
supported by the fascination of Italian creations, and emerge triumphant with a more aggressive version transmitted by “a futuristic
environment”. Tadao Ando to design the spaces in Milan, the acknowledged capital of fashion.
What appears to those strolling through the
centers of the world’s capital cities is a real way
of life, interpreted by dresses, suits, accessories, cosmetics, furnishings, publications and
floral arrangements. To the architect goes the
task of composing the promotional message by
materializing the firm’s identity in its architecture.

eleganti, contemplativi. In essi è la luce (ora
naturale che irrompe dall’esterno attraverso
tagli, ora artificiale e quasi sempre diffusa) a
tensità, a generare sensazioni.
di Londra, sito su New Bond Street.
of their movements and pauses, conferring intensity and throwing elements into relief, generating sensations. Everything is synergistically composed to ensure that the “Armani
style”, paradigm of our day, is the fulcrum of
communication. Displayed individually like
works of art, far removed from the material
world of day-to-day reality, suits, dresses and
accessories, the unrivaled protagonists, become works designed to convey a message loud
and clear. Around them are administrative and
commercial offices, tailors’ workshops, multifunctional spaces of welcome and representation, for receptions, fashion shows and other
events; and then places to lunch, to meet, to
speak, to read, to think, created to diffuse the
dynamic image of a firm and to superimpose on
the harsh face of consumerism a mask of pleasant entertainment.
Since September 2003, the Armani group has
had a new space within the Leonardo da Vinci di Fiumicino airport in Rome.
The new Emporio Armani shop, designed by
Giorgio Armani in collaboration with an internal staff of architects, revisits the concept
of the shop in London on New Bond Street.
Shop covers an area of 200 square meters.
It displays a wide range of items on a single
floor, from lingerie to evening wear, sportswear, the Armani Jeans collection, watches,
perfumes, the Emporio Armani jewelry collection, gift items and a complete range of accessories.
The minimal, clean design is enhanced by the
use of materials such as steel, satin-finished
metal, frosted glass, and “Pietra Piasentina”
(artificial stone by GranitiFiandre) for the
floors.

Here we have a container designed in function
of the content. Everything becomes a museum
of contemporary art. The visitor, captivated by
an element of attraction at the entrance (a
giant vase of primitive design) is plunged into
an introverted, isolated microcosm: the atmosphere supremely suited to art. The choice of
natural materials, a subdued color scheme (light-colored St. Maximin natural stone for
floors and walls contrasting with the near black
of the Makassar ebony furnishings), the absence of decoration, the precision of details, are
the elements with which the designer Claudio
Silvestrin molds sober, elegant, contemplative
interiors. Within them it is the light (at times
natural, flowing in from outside through openings, at times artificial and almost always diffused) which guides, with its calibrated intensity, the path of the visitors, dictating the time
