Kroger and American Diabetes Association of Dallas Are On a Diabetic Diet
DALLAS, Texas- The American Diabetes Association of Dallas is joining with Kroger grocery
stores in sponsorship to encourage diabetics (both type I and type II) to maintain a healthy
lifestyle for the entirety of 2016 starting Jan. 1, until Dec. 31.
Throughout the 2016 year, Kroger has agreed to donate 5 percent of its proceeds from sugar free
products purchased. Additionally, during the month of November (which is American Diabetes
Month), Kroger will have cashiers ask customers to donate $1 to ADA. Combining these two
donation opportunities and any other contributions made by employees and/or other donation
locations, ADA hopes to raise a grand total of $200,000.
“Diabetes is an upsetting disease that can affect us all,” said ADA Board Member Umesh
Verma. “It is crucial that we work towards a healthy lifestyle through a proper diet for diabetics
type I and type II. This sponsorship is going to create several opportunities to bring awareness to
the Dallas community.”

Kroger is one of the world’s largest grocery retailers with fiscal 2014 sales $108.5 billion. The
Kroger Co. Family of Stores spans many states with store formats that include grocery and multi-
department stores, discount, convenience stores and jewelry stores. We operate under nearly
two-dozen banners, all of which share the same belief in building strong local ties and brand
loyalty with our customers.
The American Diabetes Association is leading the fight to Stop Diabetes and its deadly
consequences and fighting for those affected by diabetes. The Association funds research to
prevent, cure, and mange diabetes; delivers services to hundreds of communities; provides
objective and credible information; and gives voice to those denied their rights because of
diabetes. For the past 75 years, our mission has been to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve
the lives of all people affected by diabetes.

2. Email Media Pitch
Media Outlet: WFAA, Channel 8 News.
I chose this media outlet because it is a well-known and trusted news source. They also have
several loyal viewers all across the Dallas area.
Good morning, Ms. Izaguirre,
Throughout the entirety of 2016, the American Diabetes Association of Dallas and Kroger grocer
are joining together in sponsorship to boost philanthropic efforts and encourage diabetics to
maintain a healthy lifestyle, and I believe WFAA will benefit its audience by announcing the
sponsorship.
As it currently stands, there are more than 700,000 people in the North Texas area who live with
diabetes- and it is estimated that one out of three children born after 2000 in the United States
will be directly affected by diabetes. As diabetes continues to rise in frightening rates, this
sponsorship will not only bring awareness to our community, but it will also help raise money to
help prevent future causes of the disease.
In total, ADA hopes to reach a goal of $200,000 in donations and plans to reach this goal from
Kroger’s efforts to donate 5 percent of its proceeds from sugar free products. In addition, Kroger
cashiers will ask customers to donate $1 to ADA at checkout and will collect any other donations
made to the ADA.
I have attached a press release which includes further information about the sponsorship. I’ll be
in touch soon to discuss a possible interview, or you can contact me directly at 940.368.5744.
Thank you for your time, and I look forward to speaking with you!
Sincerely,
Jessie Wood
