ASEAN is an intergovernmental organization comprising 10 Southeast Asian countries that promotes economic, political, security, military, educational, and sociocultural cooperation between member states. It was established in 1967 with the signing of the ASEAN Declaration by Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. The goals of ASEAN include accelerating economic growth, social progress, cultural development, and ensuring regional peace and stability.
