The legend of Mayon volcano tells the story of Daragang Magayon, a beautiful maiden from Albay who many suitors wanted to marry. One suitor was Prince Gat Malaya from a neighboring kingdom, and they fell in love. However, Magayon's former suitor Kauen was jealous and interrupted their wedding, leading to a duel between the two men where they both ended up killed. As the people mourned, the ground where the lovers were buried rose to form the perfectly shaped Mount Mayon volcano, named after Magayon.

2. In ancient times, in the kingdom of Albay there was a powerful Rajah. She has a beautiful child who is
nicknamed by the people of Daragang Magayon which means "Beautiful Maiden.”.

3. Many were attracted to her inherent beauty so countless datu and famous
gentlemen offered her love. One of the suitors was Kauen, son of a wealthy
Rajah in the neighboring kingdom. The young man offered precious jewels
and gold but the young woman refused the gift. Kanuen was disappointed
but still boasted that the girl would be his one day.

4. From distant Tagalog, Gat Malaya heard the news of Daragang Magayon's beauty. He had many
opportunities to listen to the muse but there were obstacles. Once, near a s.mall river, the girl was seen
picking flowers. Later, the young lady paddled in the stream. The young man played the melody of a happy
song to get his attention. They stared at each other and the young man smiled.

5. The Tagalog prince was encouraged and said,

When the full moon came, Daraga was forced to marry Kauen. There was a
grand banquet - dining and dancing.
In the middle of the celebration, Gat Malaya arrived with her parents.

Malay was tested with the sword but Kauen was cunning
and cunning.

13. When Kauen threw his spear, Daragang Magayon ran to

the girl's chest. Malaya hugged it but was treacherously
speared by the opponent. Both were out of breath to fall in
love.

14. The Rajah and the whole palace mourned. He ordered the two to be placed
together in a pit.

15. The days passed. Miracles of miracles. The ground in the
burial tomb rose until it became a mountain. The shape is
very beautiful and perfect. It was called Mount Mayon, in
memory of Daragang Magayon.
