“The humanities constitute one of the oldest and
most important means of expression developed by
man.” (Dudley et.al., 1960)
It is a set of academic disciplines that study
aspects of human society and culture. It includes
ancient/ classical and modern languages, literature,
philosophy, religion, history, geography, arts and
music.
It comes from the Latin word “
humanus ” which
means cultured, refined, or civilized.

and Sophia, which means wisdom.
History – Latin word historia, which means to scribble and
record the events in the past.

Language – Latin word lingua, which means tongue.
Music – Greek word mousa, which means muse and the
Latin word Musa, which denotes the goddess of music.
ART – is at the center because this provides the
enhancement of the individual human potential.
