Editor's Notes

  • #2 ----- Meeting Notes (3/5/13 00:06) -----Hi. My name is allison dittmar and i am currently working on getting my masters in nursing education here at TWU and so this semester i have gotten the opportunity to work with dr. stankus and be her TA for her 3 online classes she teaches. I have been a nurse for almost 6 years and I work in labor and delivery at medical city of dallas. This powerpoint is a presentation to go over the Nursing Practice Act and how it affects your current practice and how it can help you when you are in a leadership or a mangagment position.
  • #3 ----- Meeting Notes (3/8/13 23:40) -----The texas occupation code contains 4 chapters that are important to practicing nurses.
  • #7 ----- Meeting Notes (3/9/13 00:05) -----So how can you get up to date information from the BON. First, we recommend that you or your facility that you work at replaces the copy of the NPA every 2 years. The next thing you can do is that you can read the newsletter that comes out quarterly and contains the newest rule changes and also any disciplinary actions that have been taken against nurses.
  • #8 ----- Meeting Notes (3/9/13 00:05) -----So who makes up the Board of Nursing? This was actually something that I didn't know either and was interested in finding out.
  • #9 ----- Meeting Notes (3/9/13 00:05) -----So what is the Mission of the BON.
  • #10 THE BON ACCOMPLISHES THE MISSION THROUGH THESE MAJOR ROLES
  • #11 ----- Meeting Notes (3/9/13 00:05) -----The purpose of the bon is very similar to the mission, however it states that the purpose supersedes the interest of any individual, the nursing profession or any special interest group.
  • #12 ----- Meeting Notes (3/9/13 00:05) -----THE BON has specfic functions that it does and the texas administrative code articulates what these functions are and how they carry them out. we are going to cover some of these rules and functions.
  • #13 ----- Meeting Notes (3/5/13 00:06) -----don't talk about TAC and occupation code here
  • #16 Examples of organizations or associations: American Academy of nurse practioners, American association of critical care nurses, American Nurses Association, Association of womens health, obstetrics and neonatal nurses.
  • #17 The professional act includes several points from the NPA A-H----- Meeting Notes (3/9/13 00:05) -----the defininition of professional nursing comes from the npa in section 301.
  • #20 ----- Meeting Notes (3/9/13 00:05) -----So now that we have defined nursing, how do we go about getting that initial license. Now i know that all of you already have your license, but being in a leadership and/or management position, it is important that you know the requirements for getting your RN license now. Some of you may have had your licencse for over 10 years, and things have changed as far as the requirments that are needed.
  • #21 ----- Meeting Notes (3/9/13 00:05) -----If you haven't ever submitted your fingerprints and you are up for a renewal, the board may require that you submit a set of fingerprints.
