Orangutans are being killed by bullets and lost of habitat due to palm oil plantations expanding into their forest homes. A male orangutan named Aan was found with 104 bullets throughout his body, and doctors believe the infections from his wounds caused his death. Orangutans are considered "umbrella species" and play an important role in seed dispersal, so their loss could negatively impact hundreds of other plant and animal species in the rainforest ecosystem. With orangutans and their forests disappearing, it threatens not only biodiversity but also human welfare.
