- 4. 2. Our Region Our region is Rotterdam Centrum. We chose this region because it’s the centre of Rotterdam and there are a lot of hospitals and medical facilities. You can find almost everywhere a medical facility in Rotterdam centrum. The hospitals consist of different departments specialized in different things. Rotterdam has one of the most medical facilities in Western Europe.

- 6. 3. How do Medical Facilities Work in the Netherlands? In big cities like Rotterdam there are a lot of different medical facilities like hospitals, pharmacies and specialized hospitals. The emergency line ‘112’ can be called day and night to get the help you need.
- 7. 4. Health insurance When you are 18+, you need to have a health insurance. Otherwise the care institute will make one for you which will be paid from your salary. It costs around €100 per month. This depends on your insurer.
- 8. 5. Facilities for the Elderly There are a lot of Retirement Houses and hospitals that are specialized in helping elderly. The elderly people can get 24 hours of care if they need to. They can get: assisted living, adult day care, long term care or nursing homes

It’s called the ‘Sophia Kinderziekenhuis’ (Sophia children hospital). It doesn’t matter how old you are, you can get help from the moment that you’re born until you’re an adult.
