Aristophanes was an ancient Athenian poet and playwright born in 445 BC who wrote 46 comedies, 11 of which survive. He is considered one of the most important representatives of ancient Athenian comedy. His play "Birds" was presented in 414 BC and dealt with the establishment of an ideal society of birds, as well as the inevitable failure of such a society.
