like you! There are different parts, or components,
of fitness that help make your body strong, healthy,
and full of energy. In this presentation, we will learn
about the 11 components of fitness and examples of
activities you can do to improve each one.
2. COMPONENT 1: CARDIOVASCULAR
ENDURANCE
CARDIOVASCULAR ENDURANCE MEANS HAVING A
STRONG HEART AND LUNGS TO KEEP YOU GOING
DURING PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES.
EXAMPLES: RUNNING, SWIMMING, BIKING, PLAYING
SOCCER OR BASKETBALL.
3. COMPONENT 2: MUSCULAR STRENGTH
MUSCULAR STRENGTH IS ABOUT HAVING
STRONG MUSCLES TO DO THINGS LIKE PUSH,
PULL, AND LIFT.
EXAMPLES: PUSH-UPS, LIFTING WEIGHTS (WITH
ADULT SUPERVISION), CLIMBING ON MONKEY
BARS.
4. COMPONENT 3: MUSCULAR ENDURANCE
MUSCULAR ENDURANCE IS ABOUT HAVING
MUSCLES THAT CAN WORK FOR A LONG
TIME WITHOUT GETTING TIRED.
EXAMPLES: SIT-UPS, PLANK EXERCISES,
DOING CHORES LIKE CARRYING GROCERIES
OR RAKING LEAVES.
5. COMPONENT 4:
FLEXIBILITY
• Flexibility is about being able to bend,
stretch, and move your body easily.
• Examples: Stretching exercises, yoga
poses, reaching for your toes or doing
cartwheels.
6. COMPONENT 5: POWER
POWER IS HAVING THE ABILITY TO USE
YOUR STRENGTH QUICKLY, LIKE
JUMPING OR THROWING WITH FORCE.
EXAMPLES: JUMPING AS HIGH AS YOU
CAN, THROWING A BALL WITH FORCE,
JUMPING ON AND OFF A STEP.
7. COMPONENT 6: SPEED
SPEED MEANS BEING ABLE TO MOVE
QUICKLY FROM ONE PLACE TO ANOTHER.
EXAMPLES: SPRINTING RACES, CHASING
GAMES, RUNNING THROUGH AN OBSTACLE
COURSE.
8. COMPONENT 7: AGILITY
• Agility is about being able to change
direction quickly and move with control.
• Examples: Tag games, zig-zag running,
playing hopscotch or jumping rope.

BALANCE
• Balance means being able to
stay steady and not fall over
when you're standing or
moving.
• Examples: Standing on one
leg, walking along a balance
beam, practicing yoga poses.
10. COMPONENT 9: COORDINATION
Coordination is about being able to use different parts of
your body together smoothly and in a controlled way.
Examples: Catching and throwing a ball, kicking a soccer
ball, dancing or doing rhythmic movements.
11. COMPONENT 10: REACTION TIME
Reaction time is how quickly you can respond to
something happening around you.
Examples: Playing catch and quickly catching the ball,
reacting to a whistle or a starting signal in a race.
12. COMPONENT 11: BODY
COMPOSITION
• Body composition is about the amount of
muscle and fat in your body.
• Examples: Eating a balanced diet with
lots of fruits, vegetables, and whole
grains, and being active every day to stay
healthy.
