Purpose
Professional orginizations offer teachers access to shared
information, professional contacts, and peer support. Belonging to
International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) will prove
beneficial to teachers, and ultimately the students.
Empowing the Disabled through Access
People with a disability
must be treated as
learners who need
assistance, rather than
students who are limited
either by physical or
cognitive impairments.
(Fernandez, 2021)
• Teachers can expect to learn how students with a
disability can benefit from integrating new
technologies.
According to Stephen Fernandez in his article titled: Making space in higher education:
disability, digital technology, and the inclusive prospect of digital collaborative making.
(2021) International Journal of Inclusive Education
• The inclusion of technology will require new
pedagogical methods
• Teachers will need to move beyond the basic
requirements of IDEA
• Students who have found barriers to higher education
will benefit from inclusion
Technology equity in Education
It is time to improve
access equity to
technology, not only to
the physical and cognitive
limited student, but also
the economically
disadvantaged
community.
(Shaheen & Watulak, 2019)
• Teachers will be educated regarding the efforts to
make access to education more equitable for the
disabled.
Natalie L. Shaheen and Sarah L. Watulak have coauthored the following article:
Bringing disability into the discussion: Examining technology accessibility as an equity
concern in the field of instructional technology. Journal of Research on Technology in
Education. (2019)
• Accessibility for woman, people of color, and the
poor, have improved. But efforts on behalf of the
disabled are still lacking.
• In economically depressed regions, many disabled
persons need better education advocacy
• The U.S. Department of Education is in contact
with state education agencies to help their
websites meet accessibility laws.
The 21st Middle School Teacher
Middle school teachers
will need to assist their
students in developing
critical thinking skills.
21st century technology
can be used to create
Problem-solving learning
lesson plans.
(Liu, Shi, Pan, Li, Pan & Lopez, 2021)
• Middle school teachers will learn how new
technologies can improve students' problem-
based learning.
Min Liu, Yi Shi, Zilong Pan, Chenglu Li,& Pan and Francis Lopez, have
coauthored: Examining middle school teachers’ implementation of a
technology-enriched problem-based learning program: Motivational factors,
challenges, and strategies. Journal of Research on Technology in Education.
(2021)
• Problem-based learning (PBL) can integrate
theory and practice through technology.
• PBL changes the role of the teacher, from
instructor-to facilitator.
• The future of education will be more
integration of technology, this will require
better technology training for teachers.
What did you learn?
• The use of new technologies in classroom settings
will open new opportunities to students with
disabilities.
• In an era of unprecedented accessibility to
knowledge, technology can be used to include
the disabled. (Fernandez, 2021)
• Implementation of new technologies in
classrooms are hindered by economics,
resources, and teacher familiarity.
what you learned]
Importance
• The 21st century
classroom will look
different than it
does now.
• New technologies
will be integrated
to enhance
learning.
Relevance
• Young people are
very comfortable
with technology
language.
• Classroom
technology enables
the student to
learn digitally.
Significance
• Students with
disabilities will
have equal access
to education
technology.
• New pedagogical
methods will be
developed.

Editor's Notes

  1. A reflection on learning the benefits of integrating educational technology into school classrooms.
  2. Notes to presenter: What is your purpose for sharing this reflection? Is it at the end of a unit or project? Are you sharing this reflection, at the attainment of a learning goal you set for yourself? Is it at the end of a course? State your purpose for the reflection or even the purpose of the learning experience or learning goal. Be clear and be specific in stating your purpose.
  3. According to Stephen Fernandez, people with disabilities must be treated as learners who need assistance, rather than students who are limited either by physical or cognitive impairments.
  4. Teachers can expect to learn how students with a disability can benefit from integrating new technologies. The inclusion of technology will require new pedagogical methods. Teachers will need to move beyond the basic requirements of IDEA. Students who have found barriers to higher education will benefit from inclusion.
  5. According to Natalie Shaheen & Sarah Watulak, it is time to improve access equity to technology, not only to the physical and cognitive limit student, but also the economically disadvantaged community.
  6. Shaheen & Watulak have coauthored the article titled: Bringing disability into the discussion: Examining technology accessibility as an equity concern in the field of instructional technology. The have highlighted 4 issues. 1. Teachers will be educated regarding the efforts to make access to education more equitable for the disabled. 2. Accessibility for woman, people of color, and the poor have improved. But efforts on the behalf of the disabled are still lacking. 3. In economically depressed regions, many disable persons need better education advocacy. 4. The U.S. Department of Education is in contact with state education agencies to help their websites meet accessibility laws.
  7. According to Liu, Shi, Pan, & Lopez, middle school teachers will need to assist their students in developing critical thinking skills. 21st century technology can be used to create problem solving learning lesson plans.
  8. In their article titled Examining middle school teachers' implementation of a technology-enriched problem-based learning program: Motivational factors, challenges, and strategies. Liu, Shi, Pan, Chenglu & Lopez have said the middle school teachers will learn how new technologies can improve students’ problem-based learning. Problem-based learning can integrate theory and practice through technology. Problem based learning changes the role of the teacher, from instructor to facilitator. The future of education will be more integration of technology, this will require better technology training for teachers.
  9. Notes to presenter: The use of new technologies in classroom settings will open new opportunities to students with disabilities. In an era of unprecedented accessibility to knowledge, technology can be used to include the disabled. Implementation of new technologies in classrooms are hindered by economics, resources, and teacher familiarity. Feel free to use more than one slide to reflect upon your process. It also helps to add some video of your process.
  10. The information is important because the 21st century classroom will look different than it does now. New technologies will be integrated to enhance learning. This information is relevant because young people are very comfortable with technology language, and the classroom technology enables the student to learn digitally. This information is significant because students will disabilities will have equal access to education technology, and new pedagogical methods will be developed.
