Critical Thinking
First we started off by explaining what critical thinking, one of the six 21st
century pillars of Education,
was with the definition on the slide. The next slide was explaining the 6 degrees of separation of critical
thinking. These degrees are knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation.
The next slide was on implementing technology in the classroom in which we chose podcasts, YouTube
& storytelling, Photoshop, QR, and WebQuests; these are explained on the slide. The pillar promotion is
where my group and I got hung up, for some reason through no fault of any one person we just couldn’t
get it. We were making the assignment much harder than what it really was. As an example we used a
particular poem about trees. We also decided to have the students write a blog. The poem was about
deforestation and what it was. We decided to have the student “analyze the poem”, “choose to agree or
disagree”, and research evidence to support information about trees. For example the students will use
critical thinking skills to examine all things tree, so to speak. They should ask questions such as ‘what is a
tree?’, ‘what are the different types?’, and ‘what is reforestation?’ just to name a few. On the conclusion
slide we placed a critical thinking video as well as pictures that represent the different concepts that
make up critical thinking. The man and the mirror represent different points of view. The question mark
represents all about the question. The opened box represents thinking outside the box. The ship
represents exploration and the people in the car represent the different life experiences people have
because no two people are the same. Our last slide was our work cited
