This study examined the prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors among 1277 private sector employees in Sri Lanka. It found high rates of risk factors - 45% had a BMI over 25, 9.4% had high blood sugar, 12.1% had high blood pressure, and 5% were at high risk of heart disease. The risks increased sharply after age 40 - while only 3% of those under 40 had high blood pressure, 46% of those over 40 did. The study concludes that screening for risk factors should be routine for employees over 40 given the high prevalence found.
