Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

2. MY FIELD STUDY EXPERIENCE
Field study is a learning materials activity that provides
students with a real-world learning environment in which to learn
from observations made in the field. Much of the learning makes
use of observations, reflection on observations,
experimentations with phenomena and the use of firsthand data
and daily experiences (Bloom, 1984).
September 19, 2022, is our first day of deployment in a different
school; Vincentian Catholic Academy is the school to which I’ve
been deployed. According to Ma'am Leah Veloso, the deployment
was a success, as was the heartfelt welcome of the staff and
teachers, as well as the V.C.A.'s director and Principal. I have
experienced everything that I will use in my future as a
professional teacher.
This portfolio contains information about my observations and
experiences during my six-week field study. Teacher’s Prayer,

of the peaceful space there and a Catholic church that represent the Academy its
self. The school is surrounded by a different Schools too, so there is a lot of
Students on the Site. There’s some Vendors or small stall present there. The school
allocated near from the Highway and far from the Supermarket and convenient

like Zaragoza Elementary School, and The National High School. The combination
of the schools there are making the safe zone for the students because the citizen of
the Zaragoza that this area is for the Students of Zaragoza.
7. BRIEF HISTORY OF VINCENTIAN
CATHOLIC ACADEMY
The Vincentian Catholic Academy (VCA) was
founded in 1978 as a parochial educational institution. It
was conceived out of desire to provide for an authentic
catholic education for the youth through the initiative of
Rev. Fr. Delfin Diaz, then the Priest of the town of
Zaragoza with the help of Mr. Dominador Nicolas, desired
to make the school firm foundation of Catholic education
in the town of Zaragoza. Hence, the school motto was
Pietatem et Sapienta (Piety and Wisdom).
The Academy derives its title from St. Vincent Ferrer,
patron saint of the town of Zaragoza, Nueva Ecija.
Motivated by the example of St. Vincent Ferrer, patron of
builders because of his fame for “building up and
strengthening the church through his preaching and
teachings. The academy is above all characterized by it’s
being catholic which is manifested in its title.
Through the Initial years, Fr. Diaz, with the help of
the Lay faithful of Zaragoza, was able to procure School
equipment and build school facilities by the academy in its
starting years.
8. MISSION

Serve God, humanity and nature, especially the poor.
VISION
The Vincentian Catholic Academy has for it’s
Vision: excellence in aspiring and working towards
The total human development.
9. FIELD STUDY 1 REFLECTION
Field Study 1 focuses on the learners and the environment in which they
develop their knowledge and expertise in addition to nurturing what they have
learned in school into the desired individual. This subject's lessons and discussions
provide an excellent chance to learn about the learners, their instructional strategies,
and the entire educational process. With this observation, we can see what needs to
be improved and what needs to be improved in regards to delivering lessons to
learners in the twenty-first century. The shift in perspective corresponds to the
potential shift in how we perceive these individuals. It has been emphasized that we
are now in the 21st century, which means that the curriculum is centered on students
rather than teachers.
A further concern of the study is to look at the students' attitude toward the
class after the pandemic. Several topics were centered on describing what a
necessary and conducive learning environment is for learners. an engaging,
comfortable environment free of prejudice and disruptions that may lead to poor
learning. A place that is enjoyable, respectful, and worthwhile to spend money on
Field Study 1 provided me with my first off-campus field observation. The
main purpose of the observation is to gain experience as a teacher in communicating
with students as well as to undergo an assessment of the physiological aspects of the
institution, such as the various facilities, classrooms, and so on. It's the first time I've
handled or observed learners from a different field as a teacher rather than a student.
I learned a lot from the students about how they are completing assignments and
using the lesson as a learning opportunity. My cooperating teacher shared many
insights and tips for making a classroom effective and conducive to the various needs
of diverse learners. I was able to conduct field interviews with teachers, learners,
and parents about how they view learners and their methods and styles for creating
an engaging and active learning environment.
The observation was a success, with many new insights and experiences
gained. With the experience, I came away with so many great realizations and
reflections.
Before beginning anything, the first thing that must be done is to comprehend
and recognize the uniqueness of all the students in the classroom.
10. FIELD STUDY 2 REFLECTION
Field Study 2 deals with the process of the teaching and learning process,
participation and Teaching assistantship. This will bring into real scenario of
teaching, by giving some rules that they need to follow and giving authority to held
the class. This experience provides experiential support for our previously
completed Field Study 1 and foundation professional education courses. All the
discussion and topics are all relevant to the main concept of putting up all the plans
into reality and giving due consideration to the learners and to the different principles
under the umbrella of teaching and learning.
Part of the requirement for FS 2 is to undergo and observation. This is in line
with main goal of the study to let teacher education students have a first- hand
contact or experiences with what is going on inside the room when the teacher
implements his/her teaching plan.
My cooperative teacher has her own technique for teaching her lesson
properly, using PowerPoint presentations, and this allows us to help when there is
an activity after the discussion. I realized through my assistance that my cooperative
teacher feels relief because of the students that are always asking questions after the
discussion.
I have experience checking the test papers of the learners to assess what they
learned from the lesson, and I’m one of the judges of the students for their
performance task, so I will say that every student really engaged in the activities that
the teacher assigned.
As a future teacher, I must research and learn about field studies, which will
equip us with information and skills in order to be a well-equipped and empowered
teacher. For my future students and myself as a teacher, I desire to move from
weakness to strength, from negative to positive, from consciousness to self-
confidence, and from non-essential to essential, so I'll be able to say I'm truly
globally competent and professional.
11. TEACHING BELIEFS
In the Future, I plan to base my teaching practices heavily on the
student – centered ideologies found in Progressivism and social
reconstructionism. As a science major, I think that education should
address social issues, that theories should be put to the test through
experimentation, and that learning occurs when questions are answered.
This combination will enable me to teach students the importance of
improving society through their understanding of science, technology,
and social issues.
I prefer the Progressivist school of thought over the other two. I am
moving with the times in the twenty-first century. I firmly believe that
technology can help students reach their full potential. Students are
encouraged to interpret on their learning, pursue their own interests, and
collaborate with peers and teachers in the classroom I picture. Enhancing
their capacity for research, problem-solving and communication.
According to my social reformist viewpoint, science can help us
understand the social problems facing a country. Everything and
everywhere is impacted by science; we simply need to be aware of it. By
including it in my lessons, I’ll have students who are fully accessible
about social issues and use science as a tool to shift society’s viewpoint.
Finally, my main teaching philosophy is based on the adage “Children
learn through play” which I find to be true. “Science and technology
created games; these games connect worlds; when students play games,
they connect to the and that begins their first- hand education about the
world”.
12. DAILY EXPERIENCES ( FIELD STUDY 1 AND 2
JOURNAL )
Day 1. September 19, 2022
Today was the First day of our Field Study deployment and orientation here at
