SPACE PLANNING AND RETAIL 105 Sue Ann Court Office: (703) 450-6483 Sterling, VA 20164-1924 Fax: (703) 450-6240 O nce a Moose Lodge dance hall, Capital Rentals aquired this building and property as a new home for their Fairfax store. From the beginning, the client had an eye on doing something unique. We too saw this ìdiamond in the roughî as an opportunity to do something special. Before C apital Rentals was looking for a friendly, inviting facility that would keep folks coming back for all their rental or party needs. ìGive us something with the ëcorner storeí appealî, they said when we first met at the site. In particular the client wanted to include the corporate color on a new metal roof. Concept A s you travel on Route 29 between Fairfax and Centreville, this eye catching solution draws you in with its signature corporate red roof. The original buildingís structure is proudly expressed on the interior in the customer service area. The high open ceiling with exposed trusses and dormer windows serves as inspiration for the home improvement customer ìbuilderî in all of us. Solution

The owner wanted to expand the facility to include a new office area and additional dining space in the existing building. We were asked to provide a study and design including construction budget. It was important to enhance the existing architecture. Existing Conditions O ur solution was created using the existing architecture as a framework to a lighter more playful expansion. Due to the capability of the existing building and construction logistics, a light weight construction system was proposed. This allowed the design to build in a decorative nature while incorporating the original design. The expansion gives the existing building some new ìeye candyî for the Proposed street.
- 3. INDUSTRIAL BUILDINGS 105 Sue Ann Court Office: (703) 450-6483 Sterling, VA 20164-1924 Fax: (703) 450-6240 T he rural town of Amissville is 15 miles west of Warrenton, Virginia. For many years this community has slowly out- grown the existing post office facility. Working with the USPS Standard Design selected for this rural location, our solution incorporated elements from the area to bring a comfortable curb appeal to this important icon of the community. CHURCHES 105 Sue Ann Court Office: (703) 450-6483 Sterling, VA 20164-1924 Fax: (703) 450-6240 T his rural church in Markham, Virginia needed to address structural repairs to their aging 120 year old building. The floors and exterior walls of Beulah Baptist Church were sagging and the roof was out of square. The project began with structural repairs which carried through to upgrading restrooms and a updated look in the sanctuary space. The fresh new look was built around the existing stained glass windows which were carefully removed and installed in custom frames. The interior wood trim color and lighting were all selected to support and compli- ment their beautiful windows.
- 5. SCHOOLS AND 105 Sue Ann Court Office: (703) 450-6483 INSTITIONAL Sterling, VA 20164-1924 Fax: (703) 450-6240 BUILDINGS T his Montessori school is located in Ashburn, VA. Among the design challenges was the need to create a solution for a 14,000 S.F. facility without causing the building to be out of scale with its surroundings. The Montessori Academy at Belmont Greene wanted their building to be a friendly and inviting place for chil- dren. The layout is focused on the Montessori teaching concept with creative spaces and effective circulation in mind. These concerns are carried through the entire project from the parking lot to the play ground. Colors and materials were selected to support these concerns.
