7 Impromptu Things to Do this Long
Weekend
The four-day weekend is finally here! It’s been three long months since the year began, and you
probably can’t wait to sip, swim, and relax at the beach. Good thing you already planned your
IT, booked your flights, and saved some cash.
Or not. Were you too busy to catch the last airline promo or you just don’t have budget for
vacation? That’s a bummer.
Don’t worry, you don’t have to spend these four long days doing nothing. Check out these 7
impromptu things to do this long weekend:
Biking in Manila (Intramuros, Binondo)
With everyone either out-of-town or just staying at home, the city roads will surely be empty.
This is the perfect time to pedal and explore traffic-less Manila.
Start your urban adventure in Intramuros. Go back in time as you navigate the old brick roads
that will lead you to the historic Fort Santiago, Manila Cathedral, San Agustin Church, and
Palacio de Gobernador. After the walled city, visit the nearby district of Binondo and check out
the historic Escolta Street, Binondo Church, and old China Town. The streets will be teeming
with food and other delights, so don’t forget to take pit stops.
Make sure to bring your helmet, water bottle, sunblock, facemask, and rear light!
Biking in Rizal
If you want to do something challenging, then you must try biking in San Mateo, Rizal. Located
east of Metro Manila, the hilly landscape is ideal for a cyclist’s riding adventure. But first, you
must conquer the famous “Wall of Timberland”—a gruelling 2km long ascent that’ll challenge
you not only physically but mentally. Be warned that this is a very exhausting activity, best to
prepare yourself before trying. Once you get up the wall, you can start exploring the different off-
road trails.
As mentioned earlier, make sure to bring your essentials and always stay safe!
Take your dogs to Laiya, Batangas
If you want to give your dogs a treat that’s more than just tasty kibbles, take them on a daytrip to
Laiya, Batangas!
Most of the beaches and resorts here are pet-friendly. It’s the place where you can watch their
excitement and curiosity as they explore the warm beach sand and turbulent waves for the very
first time! If your flurry friends know how to play fetch, bring your Frisbee or favorite ball and see
them run like the wind.
Be sure to ask the nearby resort first if there are entry fees for you and your pets. Bring food
and water for your canine buddies and don’t let them out under the scorching noontime sun.
Also, some dogs don’t like water so keep an eye on them when walking at the shore.
Jog around Makati-CBD
Do you want to see a different view of Makati-CBD, even though you’re here 5 times a day?
In between deadlines from work and making plans with your friends, you barely have time for
yourself. Spend this long weekend to exercise your body by jogging around the country’s
business district. Go to Ayala Avenue at 5:30AM and catch how the breaking dawn light up the
thousands of windows above you. With little vehicles around, the air would be clean, cool, and
fit for jogging. Afterwards, visit specialty coffee shops in the CBD and get a taste of single-origin
brewed coffee.
Skate in BGC
Bonifacio Global City is the developing business hub of the Metropolis. But on this holiday, it’s
your playground.
Take your skateboard or longboard and enjoy the empty streets of BGC. There are some not-
so-travelled-roads where the asphalt is smooth with a slight descent. If you skated when you
were a little younger, this is the time to bring out that trusty-old board again. If you’re a newbie,
break in that new cruiser. BGC has parks where you can relax after a day of skating. It’s also
the place where you can meet your fellow skaters.
Don’t be afraid to bring out your inner kid, as long as you have your safety helmet.
Revamp your Home
Why go out to a unique place this long weekend when you can just transform your home into
something a little bit more interesting? Rummage your storerooms and see if you can still use
some of your old ornaments and decorative. Paint the walls of your room into your favorite color
or be a little more creative by painting it with a beautiful scene. It’s also a good time to declutter.
Get rid of the things you haven’t used in a while like old clothes and furniture. Change things up
in your home and make room for better things to come!
Make an actual Photo Album or Scrapbook
There’s something joyous and eerily nostalgic about turning the pages of an old photo album.
Even in the digital world where you can just upload and view your pictures online, making a
photo album or a scrapbook is something that we haven’t grown out of. This coming holiday,
why not take this time to be creative and imaginative? Print some of the best moments you have
in your Facebook and let these photos tell a beautiful story in a photo album.
Escape hassles of heavy traffic this long weeknd. With Navigation Pack from Globe myPostpaid
Plans, arrive to your destination in the fastest and least hassle way.
Keep you devices up and running while you’re on the road. Shop for powerbanks and other
handy gadgets at Globe Online Shop.
Date Destinations out of the Metro
Today is date night. You‘re all dressed up, looking good, smelling good, and you‘ve successfully
made last-minute dinner reservations. You pick up your date and he or she looks even better
than you! You‘re all set up to enjoy a romantic Valentine‘s Day.
Well that was 3 hours ago, and you‘re still stuck in traffic.
Everyone wants to give their special someone a wonderful experience on Valentine‘s Day.
Everyone. If your dinner reservation is somewhere in Manila from 7PM to 1AM, you‘ll most likely
spend a chunk of your precious hours on the road. Your date will leave the house prepped and
ready but come home angry and moody.
Instead of making the typical dinner reservation, why not take the road less traveled? Get away
from Manila‘s abysmal traffic this Valentine‘s Day and put a different spin on your Valentine‘s
celebration!
Sand Box, Pampanga
Awaken the adventure-junkie from both of you with the outdoor attractions of Sandbox. Strap
yourself on a roller coaster zipline, balance yourself on a tightrope, and ride side-by-side on a
giant swing. With several attraction packages to choose from, you can also climb, rappel, shoot
arrows, and do so much more. This weekend, wear your outdoor gears instead of your formal
attire, and have a joy ride up north! From Manila, drive through NLEX and SCTEX towards
Subic, then take Porac Exit.
Nuvali, Sta. Rosa, Laguna
Escape the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy a breath of fresh air here at Nuvali. By day,
go wakeboarding, ride the water taxi, or pedal your way through biking trails. On sunset, watch
the sun dip over the highlands of Tagaytay while feeding a frenzy school of koi. At night, there‘s
even a special outdoor movie show, a perfect time to sit on the grass and reminisce on lovely
memories. From Manila, drive south on SLEX and exit at Santa Rosa.
Pinto Art Museum, Antipolo
Take a glimpse of an artist creative soul here at Pinto Art Museum. Just a few minutes away
from the metropolis, experience nature and art in a magnificent mix of architecture and
sculpturing. For P200 per entry, let this place take you to different genres ranging from
traditional Spanish-Filipino to modern contemporary. If you‘re looking for something that‘ll evoke
your thoughts and emotions, then Pinto Art Museum is worthy of your visit this Valentine‘s Day.
From EDSA, drive to Antipolo via Ortigas Avenue Extension, and turn right at Grand Heights
Subdivision.
Eggs for Breakfast, Sumulong Highway, Lower Antipolo
Did our scrumptious breakfast picture caught your attention? You can have that right here at
Eggs for Breakfast. Valentine‘s Day doesn‘t always have to be an evening dinner. This time,
pick up your special someone in the morning while he or she is craving for breakfast. Delight in
creatively done pancakes, sausages, toast, and eggs. The place itself is a picturesque wonder,
worthy to be in your social media page. If you‘re coming Marcos Highway, turn right at
Sumulong Highway. Go straight then turn right at Villa Cecilia Subdivision.
Nagsasa, Zambales
Camping is probably the last thing in mind when you were thinking about where to bring your
date to this Valentine‘s Day. Its unique landscape of white sand beach and Agoho tree forest
makes it a cross between Boracay and Baguio. If you want a total break from the metropolitan
lifestyle, Nagsasa Cove is best place to embrace nature! Cut yourself out from electricity and
WiFi and be free to enjoy your Valentine‘s Day in the wild. From Manila, take a bus to Iba,
Zambales and ask the driver to drop you off at San Antonio. Take a tricycle to Pundaquit beach
and hire a boatman to take you to the cove. Make sure to prepare your camping and survival
gear, because this trip is not be taken lightly.
Corregidor, Bataan
Learn about the horrors of the Pacific War and the sacrifice of our Filipino and American troops
by visiting the historical ruins of Corregidor Island. Because of its strategic location in the mouth
of Manila Bay, it has become a bloody battleground between the USAFFE and the Imperial
Japanese Forces during WWII, evident in the island's many ruins and rubbles. Just a ferry ride
away from Manila, it‘s a perfect getaway for couples who enjoy history and unique traveling.
Spend your Valentine‘s Day by deepening your knowledge of the past. To go here, book a ferry
ride via Sun Cruises. Proceed directly at Esplanade Seaside Terminal, Seaside Blvd, SM MOA
Complex.
Stargazing in Your Rooftop
If you’re stuck at home, maybe because the traffic was unbearable or you didn’t get to reserve
anywhere, you can still turn your Valentine’s day around. Take a mat or blanket and bring it to
your balcony or rooftops. Bring your favorite snacks and some refreshments. Lie down with
your loved one beneath the beautiful diamond sky. There’s nothing more romantic than night of
sweet nothings under the twinkling gentle lights.
Exploring the Metro is now made easier thanks to myLifestyle Plan’s Navigation Pack. Find your
way around the area by avoiding heavy traffic, steering away from bad weather, and taking
alternative routes to arrive without delays.
Your trip this Valentine’s is not complete without your essential gadgets. Store extra energy in
your powerbanks, protect your smartphones with rugged cases, and take your handy earphones
and Bluetooth speakers for entertainment in your journey. Get your gadgets and accessories fit
for travelling here at Globe Online store.
The Power of Duplication
Duplication is a beautiful illusion. For every wondrous occasion or event: be it your first kiss or
your last laugh, there are moments that are difficult to replicate, especially in the way it made
you felt. Certain emotions or feelings are fleeting. Humanity have long chased the power of
duplication in hopes that someday these fleeting moments will be replayed and the magic of
they possess will be bottled. This is what prompted Luis Alcantara to start the Bootlegs.
It all started with Luis’ epiphany during the period where he worked with his production, The Luis
Alcantara Foundation, for different gigs. He came into realization that these bands do not gain
enough from these. That is how the Bootleg was born. In its simplest sense, the Bootlegs is an
event where Luis Alcantara records the performances of bands in their gigs so in the end they
do not just walk with cash but with a memorabilia of their magic on stage. They can use these
as press material for marketing and press releases.
Luis Alcantara was able to make a noteworthy playlist from the previous 5 Bootlegs session.
After a year, Luis returns with fresh outlook, ready to take the Bootlegs into whole another level.
Catch him relive the magic on February 25 at 9:00 PM and February 26 at 2:0o PM in Saguijo
Café with performances by: 100yearsofsadness, Aeon Mapa, Kidstuff, Twin Lobsters, Chocolate
Grass, and Hannah + Gabi.
Frozen Still
Every moment is fleeting. It only takes a few seconds before the feeling escapes. If you could
pause a moment in your life, what would it be?
The Company of Ateneo Dancers (CADs) proudly presents their year-end concert entitled: Still.
It will be held at Henry Lee Irwin Theatre in Ateneo de Manila University on February 27, 2015.
Tickets for the said event will be available beginning February 23 starting at P 250. The show
will be open for Ateneans and non-Ateneans alike.
Capturing a moment in its rawest and most honest form has been the gift that photographs have
blessed humanity. According to Leina Bolinao of CADs, photographs are the core inspiration
behind Stills. “We wanted to be able to express and portray the different emotions and facets of
photographs,” added by Leina.
Stills is not only a showcase of talent but it is also CADs’ culmination for their blessed and
fruitful year. According to Leina, the audience should prepare to “be dazzled with the ingenuity
and creativity” of their pieces. Every performance has story to tell and Stills is no different from
them. CADs will showcase an enthralling 13 piece set of dance of combined jazz and street for
their audience. Each dance is unique and dynamic on its own with different productions and
themes but every piece is a puzzle that will complete the entire picture.
This event is brought to you by the Company of Ateneo Dancers in partnership with ZAP,
GetBlued and Hawkbags; and co-presented by Scout and Philippine Bed. In cooperation with
San Miguel Corporation. Special thanks to Dance Manila, Sound Movers and our media
partners WhenInManila.com and ClickTheCity.
Take this moment to relive every motion through stills!

  • 2. 7 Impromptu Things to Do this Long Weekend The four-day weekend is finally here! It’s been three long months since the year began, and you probably can’t wait to sip, swim, and relax at the beach. Good thing you already planned your IT, booked your flights, and saved some cash. Or not. Were you too busy to catch the last airline promo or you just don’t have budget for vacation? That’s a bummer. Don’t worry, you don’t have to spend these four long days doing nothing. Check out these 7 impromptu things to do this long weekend: Biking in Manila (Intramuros, Binondo) With everyone either out-of-town or just staying at home, the city roads will surely be empty. This is the perfect time to pedal and explore traffic-less Manila. Start your urban adventure in Intramuros. Go back in time as you navigate the old brick roads that will lead you to the historic Fort Santiago, Manila Cathedral, San Agustin Church, and Palacio de Gobernador. After the walled city, visit the nearby district of Binondo and check out the historic Escolta Street, Binondo Church, and old China Town. The streets will be teeming with food and other delights, so don’t forget to take pit stops. Make sure to bring your helmet, water bottle, sunblock, facemask, and rear light! Biking in Rizal If you want to do something challenging, then you must try biking in San Mateo, Rizal. Located east of Metro Manila, the hilly landscape is ideal for a cyclist’s riding adventure. But first, you must conquer the famous “Wall of Timberland”—a gruelling 2km long ascent that’ll challenge you not only physically but mentally. Be warned that this is a very exhausting activity, best to prepare yourself before trying. Once you get up the wall, you can start exploring the different off- road trails. As mentioned earlier, make sure to bring your essentials and always stay safe! Take your dogs to Laiya, Batangas If you want to give your dogs a treat that’s more than just tasty kibbles, take them on a daytrip to Laiya, Batangas! Most of the beaches and resorts here are pet-friendly. It’s the place where you can watch their excitement and curiosity as they explore the warm beach sand and turbulent waves for the very
  • 3. first time! If your flurry friends know how to play fetch, bring your Frisbee or favorite ball and see them run like the wind. Be sure to ask the nearby resort first if there are entry fees for you and your pets. Bring food and water for your canine buddies and don’t let them out under the scorching noontime sun. Also, some dogs don’t like water so keep an eye on them when walking at the shore. Jog around Makati-CBD Do you want to see a different view of Makati-CBD, even though you’re here 5 times a day? In between deadlines from work and making plans with your friends, you barely have time for yourself. Spend this long weekend to exercise your body by jogging around the country’s business district. Go to Ayala Avenue at 5:30AM and catch how the breaking dawn light up the thousands of windows above you. With little vehicles around, the air would be clean, cool, and fit for jogging. Afterwards, visit specialty coffee shops in the CBD and get a taste of single-origin brewed coffee. Skate in BGC Bonifacio Global City is the developing business hub of the Metropolis. But on this holiday, it’s your playground. Take your skateboard or longboard and enjoy the empty streets of BGC. There are some not- so-travelled-roads where the asphalt is smooth with a slight descent. If you skated when you were a little younger, this is the time to bring out that trusty-old board again. If you’re a newbie, break in that new cruiser. BGC has parks where you can relax after a day of skating. It’s also the place where you can meet your fellow skaters. Don’t be afraid to bring out your inner kid, as long as you have your safety helmet. Revamp your Home Why go out to a unique place this long weekend when you can just transform your home into something a little bit more interesting? Rummage your storerooms and see if you can still use some of your old ornaments and decorative. Paint the walls of your room into your favorite color or be a little more creative by painting it with a beautiful scene. It’s also a good time to declutter. Get rid of the things you haven’t used in a while like old clothes and furniture. Change things up in your home and make room for better things to come! Make an actual Photo Album or Scrapbook There’s something joyous and eerily nostalgic about turning the pages of an old photo album. This coming holiday, why not take this time to be creative and imaginative? Print some of the best moments you have in your Facebook and let these photos tell a beautiful story in a photo album.

This is what prompted Luis Alcantara to start the Bootlegs. It all started with Luis’ epiphany during the period where he worked with his production, The Luis Alcantara Foundation, for different gigs. He came into realization that these bands do not gain enough from these. That is how the Bootleg was born. In its simplest sense, the Bootlegs is an event where Luis Alcantara records the performances of bands in their gigs so in the end they do not just walk with cash but with a memorabilia of their magic on stage. They can use these as press material for marketing and press releases. Luis Alcantara was able to make a noteworthy playlist from the previous 5 Bootlegs session. After a year, Luis returns with fresh outlook, ready to take the Bootlegs into whole another level. Catch him relive the magic on February 25 at 9:00 PM and February 26 at 2:0o PM in Saguijo Café with performances by: 100yearsofsadness, Aeon Mapa, Kidstuff, Twin Lobsters, Chocolate Grass, and Hannah + Gabi.
