Joed's Lutong Hapon
Price
Prices start at P35.00 up to P210.00.
Place
JOED s Lutong Hapon is located at 257-A Don Jose Avila Street corner Maria
Cristina Ext., Capitol Site, Cebu City (beside the main entrance of Sacred Heart
Girls High School) and at Level 4 of the Ayala Terraces.
It does look like a carinderia because of its low ceiling and wooden benches in
front of the counter, and the dining tables and seats were nothing near fancy,
just regular monoblocs. But the difference is, there s no  turo-turo  from
the array of caldrons because foods are cooked fresh just like how it is done in
fine dining restaurants. Despite its localized setting, the place would still
make you feel like you re in an old and shabby Japanese restaurant. The
counter area that served as a table top was decorated with hanging Japanese
lantern. The right side which was dimly lit had unique Japanese pieces that I
can t figure out what but it looks like a mini altar. Right on top of that was
a hanging Japanese sword with thick curved blade which looked different from a
samurai.
A word of caution though for those who plan to dine at their Capitol branch.
There s a small parking space for the customers, however, parking can be quite
a challenge as many customers flock their place. We recommend you park your car
somewhere safer so you don t eat up your time looking for a parking space.
Product
JOED s offers an array of Japanese dishes, which cater not just to the
Japanese taste but to the Filipino tongue as well. Among the popular rice bowls
are Chicken Teriyaki, Katsudon/Karegadon, Beef Gyudon, and Unagi Egg Rice Bowl.
Of course, their California Crunchy Maki Roll and Crab Salmon Strawberry Maki
Roll are a must-taste specialty in the house. But the true stars of the menu are
Sukiyaki Hot Pot and Beef Gyudon.
Promotion
JOED s Capitol branch is open from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m., from Mondays to Sundays.
They have free delivery services for every Php500 minimum purchase.
It is featured in a TV program titled POPTALK in NewsTV11. Owned by a Filipino
who worked in Japan, Joed's Lutong Hapon offers authentic Japanese food at
carinderia prices. It can be found in Cebu.
Dating back to 2009, optimistic owners Joan and Edgar introduced their signature
Beef Gyudon and Sukiyakidon dishes at JOED s first mini restaurant
( carinderia ) in Mabolo. Much to their delight, these dishes clicked well
with the people, especially by the Japanese bento fanatics. With success
underway, they pushed forth on bringing this fresh and unique tradition to the
Cebuano community.
JOED s variety of Japanese dishes became a steady hit more than ever to sushi-
craving gastronomes. With its menu based on pure fresh ingredients that are
procured abroad, customers are surely never to miss the taste of authentic
Japanese cuisine. Plus, the affordable prices of their delectable Japanese
dishes all the more make their place as inviting as ever.

Indeed, JOED s Lutong Hapon has emerged successful as their place is
continually flocked by a good number of daily customers. JOED customers find
themselves going back to the place every now and then to have a taste of their
authentic Japanese cuisine.
This reputable Japanese restaurant is expanding and now has two branches
operating in Cebu City. One branch is located in Capitol site which was opened
last July 2011. Since their relocation at the Capitol site, their first
restaurant in Mabolo has already been closed.
JOED s is also the professional caterer of the 93rd and 1st Radio Bar Lounge
2. at Ayala Center Cebu. Opened in 2010, this radio bar lounge showcases Club Radio
93.1 FM. Party people can have a good time interacting with radio jocks,
enjoying the music, getting a drink, or simply having fun while partying or
grabbing a snack or two. Plus, knowing that the food that s going to be served
comes from JOED s Lutong Hapon will surely satisfy your stomach s cravings.
Hapon Suzuki Japanese Carinderia
Price
Prices start at P35.00 to P80.00.
Place
Located at Hermosa St., Tondo. At first glance, you might have hesitations in
eating here. Uses plastic plate, not air-conditioned. Space is limited. Seats
are limited with few old wooden tables and chairs. Moves are limited. Everything
is limited. It was more of a bangketa rather than a carinderia. But what is
good, you can see how your food is prepared. The kitchen is out in hte. So you
can be sure that your food is sanitary. There's also no CR but they have sink
where you can wash your hands.
Product
They offer authentic Japanese foods. All foods are readily cook upon your order
using only a two-burner stove which I've heard Toshi (chef) brought all the way
from Japan and you could also get the chance to sneak and watch while Toshi
cooks for you. And of course the authenticity of the food that taste like you're
dining in a classy japanese resto.
Promotion
Just a tip, if you don't want to wait for a very long time, I suggest that you
call their hotline (which I don't know by the way) and place your orders through
phone as early as lunch time and just dine in during dinner.
Chef Suzuki, he s a retired chef in Japan and married a Filipina until they
decided to just settle here in the Philippines. Toshi, a cruise liner cook of
twenty years who met Editha in Yamagata when she worked there as a cultural
dancer (after a stint as a dancer for Pinyo TV shows like Eat Bulaga). They are
also the parents of Suzuki, a past Survivor Philippines castaway. It has been
two years since Toshi has hung his cruise ship cook's apron and decided to put
up this carinderia with Mommy Edith. Here you won't find the overly soy-sauced
dishes of commercially franchised Japanese food chains.
Hapon Suzuki Carinderia was featured in POPTALK in NewsTV11 way back 2011. Right
after it was featured in the TV program, a lot of customer visited them which
they really didn t expect. That is why, it took them almost 2 hours before
the food is served, it is because it is only Toshi and his wife Nanay Edith who
cook and prepare upon your order and aside from the place is really that small.
But then again, it's worth the wait....a real authentic Japanese food at a very
affordable price.
