The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) expressed support for two undercover police officers who were beaten by protesters before the State of the Nation Address. One officer remains hospitalized for head injuries. While protesters claimed they conducted a "citizen's arrest", the CHR said taking photos is not illegal and citizen's arrests only apply if a crime is being committed, which was not the case. The CHR said the police were just doing their jobs of ensuring public safety and any complaints filed by the officers will receive the CHR's legal assistance.

I delivered a presentation on The eLearning 2.0 Survival Guide – Assessing the Credibility of Web Sources at the Brandon Hall Innovations in Learning 2008 conference which was held in San Jose, September 2008.
Presentation Summary
It is no surprise that integrating Web 2.0 tools to learning is an innovative practice that is catching on quickly. Pushing the Web’s potential for democratizing information, Web 2.0 social computing practices are well aligned with constructivist learning strategies. Enabling learners to develop multiple perspectives can foster analytical and critical thinking.
What is worrisome is the transition from a spoon-fed model of education to a self-discovery and self-directed model without reconfiguring the approach to learning. Are individuals applying fact-checking rigour to the content they access? What criteria are they using? What do they consider to be expert knowledge? Are they simply looking for other sources to confirm what they’ve found or are they actually analysing the source of the information? Are they aware that information, correct and otherwise, spreads like memes on Web?
My presentation was largely be based on research I have done for my M.A. in Educational Technology thesis which is a qualitative study of people who write blogs on training to be used in the professional development of people who work in the field. The question lies in the authority and credibility of these blogs, and by extension Web content in general.

Presentation Summary
It is no surprise that integrating Web 2.0 tools to learning is an innovative practice that is catching on quickly. Pushing the Web’s potential for democratizing information, Web 2.0 social computing practices are well aligned with constructivist learning strategies. Enabling learners to develop multiple perspectives can foster analytical and critical thinking.
What is worrisome is the transition from a spoon-fed model of education to a self-discovery and self-directed model without reconfiguring the approach to learning. Are individuals applying fact-checking rigour to the content they access? What criteria are they using? What do they consider to be expert knowledge? Are they simply looking for other sources to confirm what they’ve found or are they actually analysing the source of the information? Are they aware that information, correct and otherwise, spreads like memes on Web?
My presentation was largely be based on research I have done for my M.A. in Educational Technology thesis which is a qualitative study of people who write blogs on training to be used in the professional development of people who work in the field. The question lies in the authority and credibility of these blogs, and by extension Web content in general.

Political ideologies are the beliefs and practices that guide political actors in political communities;

Definition of Liberal Democracy
Traditional definition of liberal democracy is a constitutional government characterized by popular rule, protection of basic rights, and political and economic competition.
Liberal democracy embodies two ideals:
(1) Liberal parts of definition include constitutionalism, protection of basic rights, political and economic competition, and free choice at the ballot box and the marketplace.
(2) Democratic parts of the definition include popular rule, freedom, and equality.
Liberalism in the United States today is a political ideology that favors government intervention in the interest of public welfare, social justice, and fair play.
Historically, had taken a laissez-faire economic approach which demanded minimal government interference in the economy.
Liberalism has always recognized a common good; what has been at issue is the meaning of that common good and the means to achieve it.
Combining the ideals of liberalism and democracy helps us comprehend the guiding liberal democratic vision which calls for the freest and fullest possible realization of individual freedom within the framework of the common good.
Liberty can be understood as the right of an individual to act uncoerced by government and to be free from government imposed unlawful or arbitrary control.
Liberal democratic vision is a pluralistic approach providing for justice as well as order and for the general welfare as well as liberty; because many persons, groups, and interests seek fulfillment, a balance must be struck in a highly diverse political community;
Most influential school of liberal democratic thought in contemporary America is pluralism; balance can be achieved through a constitutional system of representative democracy, with the help of skillful leaders and resourceful political parties, with the recognition that a rough approximation of the public interest emerges from the clash of contending interests, and in accord with policies that advance the general welfare.

Gamil, July 29th, 2015 10:02 PM THE Commission on Human Rights (CHR) has expressed support for the two undercover policemen mauled by protesters hours before the State of the Nation Address (Sona) last Monday. In a phone interview on Wednesday, CHR media office chief Banuar Falcon, quoting CHR head Chito Gascon, expressed sympathy for the police officers who “were just doing their jobs.” The two PNP personnel, Chief Insp. Antonio Ananayo and Police Officer 1 Reden Malagonio, were tasked to conduct covert operations on the protesters on Commonwealth Avenue, but were noticed taking photos, which irked the demonstrators. The demonstrators claimed they were just conducting a “citizens’ arrest” when they mobbed the two, and hauled them off to jeepneys. Ananayao remains confined at the Philippine National Police hospital, for head injuries. Falcon said what the police went through in the hands of protesters was “unwarranted treatment.” “There’s nothing illegal about taking pictures,” Falcon said. He added: “Citizens’ arrests only happen when a crime is being committed.” “The police weren’t doing anything wrong. They were just ensuring people are safe,” Falcon said. Falcon said that the policemen could file complaints with the CHR. “If they seek our help, of course we will help them and extend legal assistance.”
