Nurses play an important role in evaluating existing healthcare programs and policies. They should review evaluations of community, state or federal policies and reflect on the criteria used to measure effectiveness. Nurses are also encouraged to select a program or policy of interest to them and discuss how social determinants impact the related issues. References are provided on health policy and social program evaluation, translating health promotion research into practice, addressing health inequities through clinical and translational research, and ethics considerations for omics research.
