Pole-top Wind Wings are lightweight wind turbines that can be installed on existing utility poles to generate electricity. They are inexpensive at less than $500 each and can generate 0.75kW of power. They are constructed mostly from glued polycarbonate sheets, which allows them to operate in wind speeds over 30 mph that would cause standard wind turbines to shut down. Their lightweight and responsiveness to wind direction enables them to capture wind power over 90% of the time, far more than other wind technologies. Their low cost, easy installation, and ability to provide immediate power generation make them well suited to replace fossil fuels in mountainous developing areas.
