1. Keypoints
"discover-thru-me" - DTMe
Since two years, the association has embarked on setting up its major
new project: "discover-thru-me"*. DTME is an intercultural project dedicated to peace education among
children and the adults educating them. Its aim is to foster the recognition of human unity in the diversity
of cultures beyond the cleavages of nations, religions, customs, languages and gender. It is articulated
around a three-year world tour on motorcycle and the book "The Little Prince".
Initiative
The initiative of DTMe falls within the constitutional mandate of UNESCO which states that, "independent
actions are (...) necessary for human beings to become global citizens in a safer world for all" and fits in the
framework of the Plan of Action of the International Decade on the Rapprochement of Cultures (2013 -
2022). As such, we presented our project to the UNESCO who in turn commended it, saying it could
become a flagship project of the decade. Thanks to the approval of the Swiss National Commission for
UNESCO, it is now in the process of obtaining its high patronage.
Organisations
DTMe is sponsored by the UNESCO Chair of the Freiburg University (Switzerland) and by the BICE
(International Catholic Child Bureau) among others. This pioneering initiative caters primarily to children
of more than 75 schools in 53 countries. These children will later make drawings on what touched
them from the themes of the book.
Some of the children will also create
small photo-reports on their daily lives.
* The "me" of "discover-thru-me" will be
the testimony of each child. Schools
will also be encouraged to share a tale
from the local culture that reflects
equivalent principles. A selection of this
material will be shown at other schools
at every stage in addition to the
internet, thus benefiting not only pupils,
but educators and families of other
regions.
Regions, phases and duration
Four travelling phases, spanning a three year period commencing in May 2016:
1. Silk Road / Central Asia, 2. Southeast Asia, Pakistan and India 3. Latin America, 4. southern Africa.
These four phases will be followed by a period of one to two years in Geneva dedicated to developing the
project product on the basis of the multimedia material gathered.
Communication
At each stage testimonies along with photos and videos, stories of children and adults will be regularly
circulated via our blog, the BICE website or that of UNESCO. Donors who have chosen to participate in
the project by financing the event in individual schools - more than 75 in 53 countries - will enable them to
associate with that particular school and receive its specific story and to establish a special relationship
with it, like a sponsor. This could motivate the staff of an institution or company for example.

2. Final product
A manual in peace education will be
developed on the basis of the multimedia
material gathered, with the collaboration
of academic experts of UNESCO Chairs.
The aim is to recommend the same to
educational systems, for its inclusion in
school curricula, thereby impacting a
wider population without time limit.
Project setup and budget
The setting up of this project has been
underway for two years, with some of us
dedicating themselves without limits. A
pilot event was held in India in January 2015. The project's budget covering a period of three traveling
years and one stationary year is important. We are currently in the fundraising phase. A detailed
presentation of the project including the communication plan, visual supports, the educational concept
and the budget with his comments are at your disposal. They can be found on the dedicated website
www.dtme.org as well as a host of other information. We would also be grateful for any networking
action or contact with third parties that could facilitate the fundraising in order to make this
beautiful project a reality.
Visibility
Every institution, organisation, foundation and individual donor (whether public or private) that
participates in this project will be honored. Their names will appear in the education for peace manual
that is to be included in school curricula, we hope, throughout the world. Moreover, throughout the
journey, information and regular reports could also refer to the donors. The support you, your company or
institution gives will therefore receive significant visibility over the long term. Anonymous donors are
of course welcome.
