Ordnance Factories - POF
POF
•Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) is Pakistan’s
premier arms and ammunition manufacturing facility.
•It not only serve the defence requirements of the
country’s Armed Forces, but also caters to the needs
of domestic and export market as well.
•Established in early 50’s and today it stands as an
advanced defence industrial complex, producing
approximately 70 major products.
HISTORY
• Pakistan's first Prime Minister, Liaquat Ali
Khan, issued a directive within four months
of the independence of Pakistan to establish
an ordnance factory in collaboration with
British Royal Ordnance Factory.
• In December 1951 Pakistan's second Prime
Minister, Khawaja Nazimuddin, inaugurated
the first four POF workshops in the small
town of Wah Cantonment.
LOCATION
• POF is located 45 km from Islamabad and with main
manufacturing facilities at Wah Cantonment, it is a
sprawling complex of fourteen production units and
six subsidiaries producing conventional arms and
ammunition.
• The POF engineers, developers, producers,
manufactures promotes the wide range of different
types of infantry and special purpose weapons,
explosives, ammunition, mortars, rockets, and the
military gear for Pakistan's military.
1) Laboratory Testing:
• Highly qualified engineers and scientists look after this testing facility.
POF ensures high standard of quality demanded in any material and
possess state of the art technology to meet all the material testing
requirements. POF has ability to conduct following tests:
Mechanical Testing
Non-destructive Testing
Physical Testing

2) Technical Training:
 In 1954-55, a technical training centre (TTC), well equipped for training facilities in the
areas such as Fitting, machining, metrology and inspection was established.
 With the expansion of POF and introduction of latest Technologies, soon it was re-
designated as POF Institute of Technology (POFIT).
 Institute is spread over an area of 21 acres.
 The Institute provides
 18 months (72 weeks) Apprenticeship Training program.
 Short term (4 to 12 weeks) Training modules.
 3 Years Diploma of Associate Engineering Course.
 One (01) year Post Diploma course in Bio-medical technology.

BIG ACHIEVEMENT OF POF:
POF EYE
 POF Eye (Corner Shoot Gun) has been developed by
the Pakistan Ordinance Factory.
 Made in the duration of 6 months.
 Pakistan 1st Muslim country to made it.
 POF Eye (Corner Shoot Gun) makes use of high
resolution camera, laser sight and a coloured LCD to
allow its operator to observe the hostile targets behind
the wall or at the corner.
 POF Eye can turn 75 degrees.
 More advanced than the Israeli weapon system
EXPORTS
• In addition to meeting the demands of Pakistan Defence
Forces, POF products are in service with over 40 countries,
in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Ammunition and rifles
have been exported to countries like Iraq and Afghanistan
for their respective military establishments.
• As of post 2010s, Pakistan has been aiming to push ahead
with it's export market.
INCIDENT
• On 21 August 2008, POF's industrial complex was the target of twin
suicide bombings by the Tehrik-i-Taliban.
• 60 people were killed and 81 injured in the attack.
• The first attack was made at the main exit gate of Pakistan
Ordnance Factory (POF) when the employees were mustering out
during a shift change.
• Simultaneously another suicide bomber attacked at gate No.1 of the
ammunition factory.
VISIT OF COAS
 Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel
Sharif visited Pakistan Ordnance Factories,
Wah on 6th April,2015, Monday.
 The COAS was given detailed briefing by
chairman POF Wah Lt General Muhammad
Ahsan Mahmood about performance of their
chain of factories and future expansion plans
till 2020, says an ISPR press release.
 COAS specially appreciated POF efforts to
meet total requirement of arms and
ammunition for ongoing Operation Zarb-e-Azb.
SUGGESTION
•I suggest that POF should increase its exports as it
is beneficial for the country’s economy.
•Moreover, the security of the factory should be very
strict to prevent any kind of incident.
Today if Wah Cantt is famous for its defence
products in all over the world and
If today every Pakistani is proud for having a
strong defence ,then all it's credit goes to
Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF)
