Podcasting allows people to subscribe to audio or video files from websites and listen to or watch them on mobile devices like iPods. The first podcast was created in 2005 and allowed people to listen to audio from blogs on their iPods. Since then, podcasting has grown significantly with over 500,000 people downloading podcasting software and over 2,000 available shows by 2006. Podcasting provides advantages like allowing people to access audio and video content on the go, see detailed statistics on audience, and create unlimited applications. Wordpress is a tool that can be used to easily create podcasts by building a blog website and adding plugins for features like audio, video, feeds, and audience metrics.

• iPod + Broadcasting = Podcasting
• Podcasting is similar in nature to RSS, which allows subscribers to
subscribe to a set of feeds to view syndicated Web site content. With
podcasting however, you have a set of subscriptions that are checked
regularly for updates and instead of reading the feeds on your
computer screen, you listen to the new content on on your iPod (or
like device).
• The format used for podcasting is RSS 2.0 with enclosures. The
podcasting enclosures refer to all binary (non-text) downloads. You
can read the text description of the enclosure before downloading the
item to view.

6. History
• Curry's show, The Daily Source Code, was the first ever podcast. It
began last August 2005 as a proof of concept for iPodder.
• Curry's original idea was to start that party by adding video clips to his
blog. But he changed his mind after attending Blogger­Con in 2001.
There blog guru and RSS author Dave Winer convinced Curry that what
people really want is the ability to quot;take the Internet away with you and
listen to it on headphones.quot;
• Since Curry launched his show, nearly 500,000 people have downloaded
iPodder, and the number of available shows has gone from zero to more
than 2,000. (november 2006)
• And iTunes is arrived!

• Short for RDF Site Summary or Rich Site Summary, an
XML format for syndicating Web content. A Web site that
wants to allow other sites to publish some of its content
creates an RSS document and registers the document
with an RSS publisher. A user that can read RSS-
distributed content can use the content on a different site.
Syndicated content includes such data as news feeds,
events listings, news stories, headlines, project updates,
excerpts from discussion forums or even corporate
information.
