Activities
Starter:
Present PowerPoint on Halifax Pocket Money Survey. Students vote on
correct answer.
Main:
• “Where Does My Money Come From?” card match activity
Students consider the full range of different sources of income, for people of
all ages and circumstances.
Students may be encouraged to consider how and why different sources of
income differ, e.g., earned/unearned, secure/regular etc
• Discussion in small groups on different issues related to pocket money –
use Pocket Money Discussion Cards or Pocket Money Discussion Points
resource (for accelerated groups). Students feedback their responses.
Teachers may choose to organise a debate.
Plenary:
Class survey incorporating questions drawing on the lesson.
E.g. who earns their pocket money?
Who thinks young people should earn their pocket money?
Who thinks pocket money is a right?
Who saves their pocket money?
