The district level vigilance and monitoring committee (DVMC) is responsible for monitoring the implementation of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989. The DVMC consists of members of parliament, state legislative assembly, police, government officers from SC/ST communities, NGO representatives, and is chaired by the District Magistrate. The DVMC meets at least once every three months to review the implementation of the act, relief efforts for victims, prosecutions, and the performance of investigating officers, special public prosecutors, and judges in handling cases under the act.
