Schools in Kenya face challenges providing adequate water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) facilities due to insufficient funding. Funding for WASH makes up only a small portion of schools' budgets. As a result, schools struggle to maintain existing WASH infrastructure like boreholes and latrines. They also cannot consistently provide essential hygiene items to students like soap, sanitary pads, and anal cleansing materials. The SWASH+ project helped construct boreholes and train teachers and students on hygiene practices. However, continued funding is still needed to address the ongoing issues around WASH facilities, supplies, and maintenance faced by schools in Kenya.
