UNIT 2 Objectives 1. Diagram the layers of the Pericardium and the Heart Wall including:
Parietal Layer Visceral Layer (Epicardium) Myocardium Endocardium 2. Describe the Great
Vessels entering and leaving the heart: Inferior Vena Cava Aorta Pulmonary Arteries Superior
Vena Cava Pulmonary Truck Pulmonary Veins 3. Diagram the blood flow through the Systemic,
Pulmonary, and Coronary circuits. 4. Discuss the coronary vessels. Diagram blood through the
major Coronary Arteries and Veins. 5. Describe the anatomy of the Heart. Include: Right and
Left Atria AV valves Trabeculae Carnaelnterventricular septum Right and Left Ventricles
Semilunar valves Papillary muscles Chordae tendineae 6. Discuss the functioning of the Heart
Valves. Describe the major heart sounds produced by closure of these valves. Tricuspid Bicuspid
Aortic Semilunar Pulmonary Semilunar 7. Outline the functioning and components of the heart's
Conduction System, including: SA Node AV bundle (bundle of His) Purkinje fibers AV node L
and R bundle branche 8. Describe events of cardiac Autorhythmic and Contractile action
potentials. Interpret the basic parts of An ECG and what events of the heart they represent. 9.
Describe and correlate the events of the Cardiac Cycle. Include the ECG Volumes Diastole EDV
Valve opening and closing Pressures Systole Heart sounds. 10. Calculate and show the
relationship between Cardiac Output, Heart Rate and Stroke Volume and describe factors that
would affect cardiac output. 11. Diagram the anatomy and function of Blood Vessels: Elastic
rteries Arterioles Veins Muscular arteries Capillaries Venules 12. Compare and contrast the
vessels: Size Thickness Pressure Blood velocity Cross-sectional area. 13. Describe the factors the
affect Blood Pressure throughout the circulatory system including: Stroke volume Heart rate
Vascular Resistance 14. Describe the mechanisms used to maintain Blood Pressure, including:
Baroreflexes Chemoreflexes Hormonal influences. 15. Differentiate between the structure and
location of the 3 types of Capillaries: Continuous Fenestrated Sinusoidal 16. Discuss the modes
of Capillary Exchange: Diffusion, and bulk flow (filtration / reabsorption). Show the relationship
between the net filtration pressure, hydrostatic pressure and osmotic pressure. 17. Identify the
major blood vessels of the human systemic circulatory system and the areas of the body they
service. (See Lab Objectives for listing). Include the differences in fetal circulation involving the
foramen ovale and the ductus arteriosus. 18. List the functions of the Lymphatic and Immune
system. 19. Summarize the various types and functions of: Lymphocytes B, T, and NK cells. 20.
Differentiate between blood, interstitial fluid and lymph. 21. Diagram the flow of lymph through
Lymphatic capillaries and vessels Thoracic duct Right lymphatic duct Subclavian veins 22.
Describe the following lymphatic organs with respect to structure, location and function: Lymph
nodes Tonsils Spleen Thymus gland Peyers patches Appendix 23. Describe the various Innate
Defenses. Include Complement Phagocytes Fever Inflammation Interferon. 24. Differentiate
between: Humoral and Cell-Mediated Immunity 25. Summarize the basic steps of Humoral
Immunity and the role of Plasma cells Antibodies Antigens Memory cells 26. Summarize the
effects of Cell-Mediated Immunity including the role of: Cytotoxic T Helper T cells Memory
cells
