2. Group Members & Roles
• Abubakar Akbari: Director
I have chosen to be a director as I have previously been a directory. I have been a director when I was doing my As media course work and I have experience in the filed of
being a director. I feel confident taking on this role as I really did a great job last time and will do a better job in our current project to. My job is to make sure everyone is
taking on their role to the best of their ability. I will also have to organise the actors and telling them what they will be doing. I also have the responsibility of picking the
appropriate location and costume for the actor to wear. I also have to work close with the camera man as I have to tell him what type of shots I’m looking for and from what
angle. I will also be working with the editor as I have to tell her which scene goes where and to make sure all the footage is in the right order and appropriate sound is used.
• Priyash Ariyaratnam: Cinematographer
Priyash will be the cinematographer as he is best suited for this job as he have taken on this role for AS media. He have a much greater experience in this area compared to
other members in our group. He also feels a lot confident taking on this role as he knows he can produce even better work compared to the last year. Priyash is in charge of
making sure that he has all the correct equipment so that we are ready to film. He also have to make sure that he’s creative with taking different shots and the framing is correct.
• Hamidah Duffus: Editor
Hamidah Duffus felt she would be suited to the role of an editor as she also has extensive experience of being in this role. She has also taken on this role previously and she
has really enjoyed it and she wants to take over this role again. Hamidah have to make sure that all the raw clips are in the correct position and the transition for one scene to
another is smooth. She also have to make sure that all the sound is on point and there are no background noises.
• Azfar Chaudary: Sound
Azfar was best suited for this role as he volunteer him self on making sure that the sound affects are good. He has taken on this role previously as well and he feels confident
that he can do a good job on making sure that the sound is on point.
3. Project Name: TOBY
Length
• 5 minutes
Format
• Our production will be an extract of a horror movie.
Outline
Our film is based on a cursed, demonic bear which has been placed in Adam’s house by no one. Aaron is the eldest
brother and Adam is the younger brother while his mum is away. Its Adams birthday and he gets gifts which were
left by his mum. Out of all the gifts he gets attached to the bear, as soon as he holds the bear, the demons with in
the bear takes over Adams soul. As the day go on sister actives starts to take place as Adam is acting strange. The
film ends with Adam killing his older brother Aaron because of the demon’s that has taken over Adam’s body.
4. Target Audience
The target audience for our production is broad as there are many factors in which our
production will attract an audience.
Our horror opening film is aimed at individuals who are aged 15 to 30 years old. Both genders
are able to watch the film as its suitable for both gender as both gender can relate to the film.
Ethnicity wise it is not aimed towards a particular race of people, as people from background
can watch the film. Most of the teenagers (15-19) would be interested in our film as they like a
film with jumps and shocks which our film will have a lot of. Mainly male would be mostly
interested as they like horror genera, but our film is also suitable for females too. Our film will
be filled with tense moments, it will have scary unexpected moments that will make our
audience a shook, this fits the criteria of our target audience which we researched and carried
out. However if our target market was outside this age group we would have lost out on a mass
market of people attended the cinema to watch a horror film.
5. Areas Of Research
We will be looking into many horror films to pick up ideas on which camera
angles would be best suited for film. We will also look into what kind of
lighting we would be using to create as scary atmosphere, this will be done by
looking into many horror film that may have similar aspect to our film. We can
also look into the sound affects that we will be using. By watching horror film
we can pick up on the different sound affect which we can use in appropriate
pleases to get a maximum scary/shook affect so that we are able to scare our
audience.
6. How will you test whether the Product is
successful? How will you check it is?
In order to assess on how successful our production will be, we will have a post-
questionnaire and a survey which we will carry out after. The questions which will be
asked in the survey will be specific aspects of our production that they have enjoyed
and what they felt could we would have done to improve our film.
We will also screen the production to as many people as possible so that way we can
get our audiences feed back and reactions.
We will also use social media platform such as Facebook, twitter and YouTube to
promote our film so that a wilder group of audience can see our film and get a
response from them.
7. Generic Codes & Conventions
We will be following the generic codes and conventions of a horror film for example
we will using low key lighting. The low key lighting will create a dark and mysterious
atmosphere which will really scare our audience. Further more, we will be also using a
knife which follows the generic codes and convention of a typical horror film. By
using the knife it connotes death and danger, these are the thoughts that we want our
audience to have through out the film. We will be also using scary airy sounds affects
as the back which will create tension amongst the audience. At some points in our film
we will be using loud non-diegetic sound to really make our audience out of their seats
giving them a shock. We will also be using a lot of We are using these conventions it
will gives us the best out come, as these conventions have already been applied in scary
movies and the out comes of the movies were great.
8. Resource constrains that could affect the
productions?
• Money: This can become a constrain because some of the props that we will be
using may be slightly expensive. As we are all students we don’t have a significant
amount of money that we can spend on the equipment and recourses. We have a
set budget which we can not exceed, this gives a restriction as to what we can buy
which may have a slight knock on affect on our short film.
• Actors: This is a major constrain which we have to overcome, we have to find a
actor who is 7-9 years old that can take on the role of Adam. We have to find a kid
that is able to act, this may take some time to find someone that is young and is able
to act. Adam is the main character of our short film and we really need to make
sure that we find the right person.
