Planet Earth Strachur Primary School Cross curricular project- August-October  2008
This Science based project  included the study of - Bees by P1 and P2 Water by P3, P4 and P5  The formation of rocks and soils by P6 and P7.
Projects were planned to include - Enterprise Education for Sustainable Development & Biodiversity Community links Health and well-being
P1/2 …… Why are bees furry?
Park Rangers came to play a game they had created…
Scottish Bee Keepers brought a hive and honey..
… we grew borage and tasted honey made by lots of bees.
P6/7 investigation… In what way do the resources under our feet meet our needs?
Local Geologists explained their business to P6 and P7. They have a gold mine in Tyndrum…….
..another Geologist Julian Hill helped them to find garnets in Strachur Bay….
..a Geologist explained rock formations, and how volcanoes erupt.
The Ranger used chocolate geology to explain how a variety of rocks are formed.
The class visited Bonawe Furnace. Links were being made to show how the resources from Planet Earth were being used.
Tassy Thomson came to school and the class made simple tools.
Two ladies from the local Archaeology Society joined us.
P3,4 and 5  investigated the properties and uses of fresh water and sea water. They went with the Rangers to a local river and learned how to estimate levels of pollution by investigating the living organisms in the water.
They made interesting recipes with Lori from Loch Fyne Oysters.
. P3, 4, and 5 are collecting litter at the bay in Strachur. They sorted and weighed it at school . They were accompanied by a member of GRAB.
River models. Working in cooperative groups pupils created 3D models . They added labels. They could talk about their river models.

At the end of our project… We shared what we had learned in assembly. We displayed our work for Parents and Carers. P1 and P2 made a talking book.
Our next steps.. P6 and 7 to visit a site with the local archaeology group. P3, 4 and 5 to undertake a project called The Unsinkable Ship. P1 and 2 to plant to attract bees next year. For staff and pupils to evaluate the project.
