There are several instances of a certain country setting up huge speakers near the
border and playing propaganda messages as an act of psychological warfare against
the neighbouring country.
X songs have also been played over the loudspeakers, which is a sound that isn't
entirely unfamiliar along the border.
Both these countries have their own versions of X, one is very conservative because
of their patriarchal environment, it also sounds a lot more traditional and less
computerised compared to the other side of the border.

A certain Bollywood movie released in the early 2010s was special and
groundbreaking in many ways, such as being among the very few Bollywood movies
to make a Playstation game based on themselves.
The soundtrack, composed mainly by Vishal-Shekhar, too received widespread
acclaim and overwhelmingly positive reviews and is noteworthy for its unique
collaborations with foreign artists. This includes the use of an internationally famous
Senegalese-American singer on two tracks, who even sang some parts in Hindi (and
quite well too!). The 200-piece Prague Philharmonic Orchestra were also flown in
from the Czech Republic to feature on the soundtrack.

After the conclusion of an event last year, the record ‘Party in the U.S.A.’ started
climbing ranks on the US itunes chart and in a short amount of time, cracked the
chart’s Top 200. The song perfectly soundtracked the celebratory mood of the
nation.
The 2009 single is performed by an artist who emerged as a teen idol following her
acting in a Disney television series. It peaked at #2 on the singles chart and has
enjoyed many resurgences over the years.
The song came in spotlight, once again, in 2011 after an event, following which
people spammed the music video’s comments celebrating the event. The song was
then deemed as a ‘celebratory anthem’, well, mostly because of its title.

The U.K official singles chart, in 2017 announced new chart rules to “support new
music and breaking artists”. The change was introduced to prevent established artists
from dominating the charts and making it easier for newer artists to feature in the
chart.
The change introduced allowed an artist to have only three of their most popular
tracks featured in the chart’s Top 100 at a time. In the past, many artists have had
multiple songs of theirs featured in the chart. However, the event that perhaps
triggered this was when all 16 tracks of an album X charted in the Top 20 and painted
the chart blue-black.
X, a chart topping album, was released earlier the same year and spawned multiple
hits. The audio of one its songs will be played for you.

This Oscar-winning music composer received an honorary doctorate from the
Berklee College of Music (Boston, USA) in 2014. On receiving this honour, he
commented on how his life had come full circle.
More than twenty years ago, he was planning to study at Berklee but was offered the
chance to be the music director of a film. He opted to work on the film and didn’t go
ahead with his planned college education. His illustrious career thus began and by
the time of being honoured by Berklee it included highlights such as composing
music for more than 140 films, winning two Oscar awards and two Grammy awards,
along with gaining worldwide fame for his music. The college later gave a one-time
full-tuition scholarship under his name to three students belonging to his region of
the world.

Bob Dylan is an American singer-songwriter. With an illustrious career spanning nearly 6

The world had mixed reactions when Bob Dylan was announced as the recipient of X in
2016. He was the first person ever from his field to have been conferred with this honor
which, usually, has been associated with people in a different profession. This set ablaze
the debate if Bob’s work was eligible for the prestigious honor.

This music legend X is probably synonymous with the instrument he plays. Apart
from being one of his country’s most loved and respected icons, he also made his
instrument (and consequently the whole form of music) popular worldwide. The
mid-1960s saw this style being featured extensively in western pop and rock music.
He influenced and collaborated with a member of the Beatles Y who was very
interested in X’s style of music. Y began to experiment with it and played the
instrument in one of the Beatles’ hit songs, which is largely credited with the
previously mentioned worldwide exposure that X’s form of music got. The name of
the song would remind you of a certain Haruki Murakami.

A bowed string musical instrument, Violin was recognised early for it’s singing tone.
Said to have Italy as it’s birthplace, it is also the primary string instrument used in
chamber music. A colloquial term for this musical instrument finds use in some
idioms such as:-
1. This four word phrase might have to do something with the maintenance involved
in keeping the instrument in a good shape. The phrase compares a person’s health
to a well maintained instrument and implies that a person is in a good health.
2. The second idiom is derived from the role of the second violin in an orchestra. It is
a three word phrase and is used in situations where someone is playing a
supporting role to someone.

The makers of a bollywood film came under fire after the release of one of the songs
from the movie. The song faced intense backlash for it’s “tone deaf” and “racist” lyrics.
The director of the film apologised and said in a statement : “We assure you that the
lyric in question was never intended racially. In fact, the term <Redacted> has been
so often and traditionally used in Indian songs to address a girl, that it didn't occur to
any of us to interpret it in the literal manner.”
The lyrics basically compares the protagonist to (another woman). The title of the
controversial song was then tweaked a little.

The summer of 2018 saw everyone doing X.
It all started when a comedian, for an instagram video, danced along to the opening
lyrics of a song belonging to a mega-successful project released earlier that year.
(People added their own twist to the challenge, one did X atop a bridge.)
The footage created an internet sensation so big that a government agency had to
issue a legal order discouraging people from doing X for their safety. Some
communities even had to ban the practice.
The artist later released a music video for the song which showed him following the
lead of the creator and doing X. The music video also showed a quick compilation of
some of the best X videos on the internet.

This 2015 song was originally acoustic guitar-based and had a stripped down feel to it as
the singer sang about how his career had faded and he had blown his chance to be
successful. Ironically, this song went on to be hugely successful and gave his career a
second wind. The credit for it doing well also goes to a Norwegian music producer duo
because they released a remix of this song and it was this version that went on to top the
charts in many countries. Explaining the song, the singer later said:
“It was sort of a mystery _ _ _ _. I was already under the influence of alcohol at the time. I
had written a song with Avicii that week in Sweden called "Stay with You" and he was
playing in _ _ _ _ _ so I said, 'I will just go there with you,' because I was already in
Europe……………….. I took one and I had never done that before, and I felt amazing. Then
when I came down I felt ten years older…”

In the 1970s, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry wanted to enlist the support
of Bollywood to spread pro-Government propaganda. A certain famous singer,
among many others, had to face the brunt after he refused to sing at a Youth rally or
even meet the officials for the promotion. Offended by his “discourteous behaviour”,
the ministry prohibited the telecast of his songs on Doordarshan and AIR, blacklisted
films such as “Sholay”, and froze his gramophone record sales. Eventually the singer
had to comply. Years later, the incident was termed as a “regrettable episode” and
the minister in question accepted full responsibility.

‘De de Khuda ke naam pe pyaare’ was a milestone release for the Indian music
industry. Released so long ago that no print or gramophone record of the film is
known to survive, the movie it was a part of was also a first for Indian cinema.
Some of the slogans seen on the posters advertising the movie were:
“ALL LIVING BREATHING 100% TALKING”
“ALL TALKING SINGING DANCING”
While bollywood celebrated 100 years of its existence in 2013, it was not until this
landmark movie of the 1930s that the Indian film industry gained one of its vital
characteristics by which it is now easily identifiable globally.

A few years ago, a rapper X released a song called “Rap _____” which was a diss
track aimed at another rapper Y. The title of the song was a play on the name of one
of Y’s successful songs Z which came out in 2013. This spat is said to have been
caused by one of X’s tweets in 2012, which probably offended Y.
Y then responded to “Rap _____” by releasing another song which became one of his
biggest hits in recent years. Both artists were signed to the same record label at the
time, and some conspiracy theorists suggested that the rivalry was made up or
encouraged by the record label to boost their commercial performance.
