The presentation used during the Pirate Party, planned for International Talk Like a Pirate Day 2016. We talked about how to talk, act, and dress like a pirate before breaking up into small groups and practicing our pirate skills.

- Obviously as pirate recruits you know all about our official holiday, International Talk Like a Pirate Day! Right? No?
- Facts about Talk Like a Pirate Day One day of the year when all landlubbers can pretend to be pirates. All sorts of wanna-be sailors have celebrated, including presidents, astronauts, and librarians. It occurs on September 19th every year—which was this past Monday.
- Are you ready to be part of my pirate crew? You say (leave space) “Arrrrr!” No you aren’t! You haven’t even finished step 1 of training!
- Instead of saying “Welcome to the library”, I said “Ahoy Maties!” Say hello to the landlubbers sitting next to you—you better become friends because you’ll be shipmates soon!
- Avast! I see land! Let’s do it all together.
- I’m going to make you the most fearsome pirates on the Spanish main. Savvy?

- Ask for a victim/volunteer Ask what a pirate typically wears As you get responses, dress the attendee up as a pirate --Shirt, pants, parrot (puppet), hook, bandana/headband (no hat because he is no a captain yet) --Eye Patch-cover one eye, peg leg-stand on one leg
- Final step. In addition to all of the previous tasks, there are many things a pirate must be able to do properly—if not done right it could lead to a pirate’s demise. -Walk the plank -Keeping the sharks happy -Knowing how to find land -Knowing how to sneak up on another pirate -Knowing how to find treasure
- To become REAL pirates you will need to complete the five final tests -Walk the plank -Feed the shark -Build a Spyglass -Pin the Eyepatch on the Pirate -Hunt for Treasure When you complete each task, you will get a stamp. When you complete all tasks, you will go to our pirate ship where you will receive your pirate hat and your pirate certificate and sign the Pirate Pledge.
