The Maguindanaos are the largest group of Filipino Muslims who live as farmers, weavers, and fisherfolk in the flood plains. They are known for their malong clothing. The Samals are sea-dwelling people who live in coastal villages and are known for their mat weaving. The Badjaos or sea-gypsies live on tiny houseboats at sea and have dark skin from the sun and salt water; they have low incomes and children lack access to education. The Ivatans live on Batanes Island and have a reputation as peaceful people.
