Phytoremediation is an emerging scientific discipline based on understanding of botany and plant genomics, similar to human genomics. Now it is possible to conserve key coastal community resource such as the Great Dismal Swamp located in Southern Virginia & NC border area. Economic vitality of the community with secondary mission of multi-discipline conservation is this virtual team based SBIR Phase I type grant.gov RFP response with community support and advisory as required. Our club twin philosophy of "self help & mutual help" is excercised via arts & science twin bridge.

Great Dismal Swamp Virginia (GDS)
Abstract: Of the 3 species of fern found at GDS, netted chain fern
(Woodwardia areolata) was found to intake certain metals present in the eco
naturally in season when present in the soil including MEHG. Second, based on
recent natural MEHG genomic discovery made at Oak Ridge National Labs
occurring in such eco, it may be possible to structurally modify Woodwardia
areolata to intake larger quantity of MeHG for use in phytoremediation
application while reducing other intakes, at a strategically created constructed
wetland at GDS eco.
