This document describes the axolotl, an amphibian that lives in Lake Xochimilco and Lake Chalco in Mexico. Some key traits of the axolotl include its ability to regenerate limbs, breathe through gills or lungs, and retain its tail throughout its life. It prefers to live in water between 14 to 17 degrees Celsius and likes to swim and hunt for food like worms and dead fish. Unlike its relatives, the axolotl retains its gills and tail into adulthood.
