Games can be a motivating way of teaching English, but are they always useful? In this workshop, we'll look at reasons for using games and examine how to match objectives with fun so that our students can be engaged, successful learners. We'll also take a look at some example classroom games and analyze which ones would be best to use in your classroom!
The second lecture in the First-Year Composition series; it addresses writing an effective introduction for a college-level essay. Recorded live on September 10, 2007.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
2. NatellaDevitskaya and her partner KerilKurish have a dance studio together called Queen of
DanceSport. They are known worldwide for their performances and they do everything to
teach their students what they are capable of doing. They are champions in ballroom dance
which include cha-cha, samba, jive, rumba, and pasodoble.Natella is the main instructor and
she is the one who deals with the children and prepares them for many competitions.
3. Natella teaches six days a
week. She believes that a
dancer must be in motion all
six days of the week. Her
dance session begin from
4:00 pm to 9:00pm.
Saturdays class begins from
1:00 pm. She has children
from all ages and according
to their ages they are divided
into groups. She has one
main rule that everyone
must respect one another
and must be friends. Once
the clock hits 4:00 pm all the
children gather up in the
studio dressed in the proper
clothing and ready to begin
class. They are dressed in
black hues and black skirts
and their hair must be tied.
Natella walks in and starts to
take roll and begins class
with warm-ups and
stretches.
4. After some warm-ups, the next exercise Natella does is
puts music and has the children dance under the
different beats to check at the way they listen to music.
The children dance individually under the song while the
rest sit and watch. Every child dances to a different beat
and must show a new move they learned from the
previous class. In Latin American dances there are
different beats to every song, which is why she does this
exercise to prepare the children during the competition.
At competitions, they put songs that children have never
heard of and since they know the beats to every type of
dance they must count and begin their performance.
Towards the end, Natella goes by every child one by one
and shows them the mistake they made and teaches
them the correct way to do the move.
5. Natella now begins to
prepare the children for the
competition they all have
been waiting for. She starts
off with the cha-cha where
she demonstrates the hand
and leg movement. The
position that all the
children are in is the basic
movement for cha-cha.
Their body must be straight
with dramatic face
expressions. She works
with them day and night
because she wants them to
succeed in dance and be
called from all over the
world just like she has.
6. Natella then moves to the next
dance known as the samba,
which is a lively, rhythmical
dance. Samba is mainly known
for the movement of the body.
It is a difficult dance because
people must know how to
move their body in the correct
way. Natella is demonstrating
how the body must move in
circular motion. She Is not
moving her head or her legs
the only thing that is important
in samba is the arms and
posture movement. The little
ones always have trouble with
samba, but they are very
intelligent that they grasp very
quickly. Natella puts a lot more
effort with the boys when it
comes to samba because most
of them get shy to move their
bodies like they are supposed
to.
7. The competition that everyone was waiting for had a great end. All of the Queen of DanceSport
students received first place medals for cha-cha. Natella was very proud of her students and
how each and every one of them supports one another and they won as a team together. She
feels proud of her students and is eager for the upcoming events. She is confident in her
students.
8. Natella and her first place
champions at the Hollywood
Championships. She is a proud
instructor as we all can see.
Her students won first place in
samba, known as the difficult
dance of all. Her student Ani
and her partner Samvel
worked as a team together
and won that first place
medal. Natella believed in Ani
and Samvel because they
didn’t miss any class sessions
and they practiced together
on their spare time.
9. Natella’s students Mariam and
Samvel won second place at the
Hollywood Championships
performing a solo cha-cha. She
was still proud of her students
because it was Mariam’s first
competition she has ever
attended. She believes in Mariam
because she is consistent and
works very well with Samvel.
10. Natella and her little ones are
preparing for a samba
competition at Desert Classic
Dance Championships. The
little ones prepared a group
performance of samba. The
girls are dressed in polka
dotted crop tops with the
matching skirts and the little
boys are dressed in vests with
short white pants. She
believes her students as a
team will make the best out
of their performance.
11. Another competition
Natella and her students
attended was the Embassy
Ballroom Championship.
During this event Natellas
students Misak and Kristina
performed samba and
received first place medal.
The little ones worked very
hard and also stayed extra
time on Saturdays. Being
beginners and winning a
first place medal in samba
was a huge deal for
Natella. She is very proud
of her students and feels
confident at every
competitions because she
knows her students will do
everything to make her
proud. They work as a
team to make their
instructor proud.
