This document discusses nature conservation efforts in Singapore. It begins by listing some natural areas in Singapore and noting that there are still some native species found there, such as coral reefs and dolphins. It then discusses what constitutes "nature" and different approaches to conservation. Several conservation groups in Singapore working on issues like terrestrial and marine conservation are highlighted. A case study of Chek Jawa wetlands discusses how public awareness and opposition helped defer a large reclamation project there in the early 2000s. The talk emphasizes the importance of public participation and involvement of different stakeholders in conservation.
The present study concerns the feedback stabilisation of the unstable equilibria of a two-dimensional nonlinear pool-boiling system with essentially heterogeneous temperature distributions in the
fluid-heater interface. Regulation of such equilibria has great potential for application in, for instance, micro-electronics cooling. Here, as a first step, stabilisation of these equilibria is considered. To this end a control law is implemented that regulates the heat supply to the heater as a function of the Fourier-Chebyshev modes of its internal temperature distribution. These
modes are intimately related to the physical eigenmodes of the system and thus admit robust and efficient regulation on the basis of the natural composition of the temperature field. Key to this modal-control strategy and its application for controller design are two equivalent and interchangeable PDE and state-space forms of the linearised pool-boiling model. Derivation of these forms is a central theme of this study. Performance of modal controllers thus designed is demonstrated and analysed by simulations of the nonlinear closed-loop system.

Two Phase Flow Measurements under Static and Dynamic Conditions for Predictin...Mehdi Ghobadi , PhD., MBA
This document summarizes an experimental study on bubble rise velocity in inclined pipes and liquid flow rates needed to suppress gas flow, or "bullhead", in order to model well killing processes. The study measured bubble rise velocities in water and brine mixtures in pipes at various inclinations and proposed a model based on drift flux theory. It also examined using a liquid flow to counteract a gas flow ("bullheading") and proposed an empirical model relating liquid flow rate to pipe inclination needed to kill the gas flow. A literature review on bubble rise velocities, slug flows, and well killing methods is also provided.

Monitor indicators of genetic diversity from space using Earth Observation dataSpatial Genetics
Genetic diversity within and among populations is essential for species persistence. While targets and indicators for genetic diversity are captured in the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, assessing genetic diversity across many species at national and regional scales remains challenging. Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) need accessible tools for reliable and efficient monitoring at relevant scales. Here, we describe how Earth Observation satellites (EO) make essential contributions to enable, accelerate, and improve genetic diversity monitoring and preservation. Specifically, we introduce a workflow integrating EO into existing genetic diversity monitoring strategies and present a set of examples where EO data is or can be integrated to improve assessment, monitoring, and conservation. We describe how available EO data can be integrated in innovative ways to support calculation of the genetic diversity indicators of the GBF monitoring framework and to inform management and monitoring decisions, especially in areas with limited research infrastructure or access. We also describe novel, integrative approaches to improve the indicators that can be implemented with the coming generation of EO data, and new capabilities that will provide unprecedented detail to characterize the changes to Earth’s surface and their implications for biodiversity, on a global scale.
Trichogramma spp. is an efficient egg parasitoids that potentially assist to manage the insect-pests from the field condition by parasiting the host eggs. To mass culture this egg parasitoids effectively, we need to culture another stored grain pest- Rice Meal Moth (Corcyra Cephalonica). After rearing this pest, the eggs of Corcyra will carry the potential Trichogramma spp., which is an Hymenopteran Wasp. The detailed Methodologies of rearing both Corcyra Cephalonica and Trichogramma spp. have described on this ppt.
