Sacha Vess cares for her daughter who has autism, cerebral palsy, and seizure disorders and requires a high level of care. This has taught Vess patience and to appreciate life. Vess became interested in nutrition after studying at Hocking College and Ohio University. She has worked in food service and wants to be a health inspector to ensure food safety. Currently a senior at Ohio University studying environmental nutrition, Vess has had various jobs involving food handling, customer service, and office work. After graduation, she plans to intern with the local health department and hopes to work as a registered sanitarian to improve perceptions of health inspectors and help the public with a positive attitude.

I became interestedinthe fieldof nutritionin2008, whenI enrolledatHockingCollege. Mycourse of
discoverywasdietarymanagementwithculinaryarts. WhenIgraduatedandachievedmy associate’s
degree,IdecidedthatIwantedto furthermyeducationandtransfertoOhioUniversitymajoringin
NutritionandminoringinEnvironmental Health. Iknew thatI didn’twantto counsel patients. The
momentItook the serve safe class,Iwas hooked. Iknew whatI wantedto be,a healthinspector. I
wantto be sure that the foodthat isservedisfree of contaminatesandeverythingisuptocode.
Currently,Iam a seniorattendingOhioUniversity,inthe Environmental Nutritionprogram Ichose this
majorbecause I delightinworkingwiththe publicandhelpingothers. I have had the opportunityto
enjoymanyfoodservice relatedworkexperiences. Ishadowedone of the RegisteredSanitarians
employedbythe AthensHealthDepartmentandnotonlydidI appreciate mytime observingher,I
realizedthatIwoulddowell inthatposition.
I am currentlyemployedbyOhioUniversityandmyjobisto interactwiththe customers. I serve foodto
the public,operate the registerandstockall itemsforsale. Imake it a pointto be enthusiastic,
encouragingpeopletoexperiencethe foodthatI sell. The experiencethatIhave receivedisuseful for
the positionthatI desire.
Overtime I have acquireda varietyof skillssuchas: cooking,the handlingof moneyandthe exchange
of money,the abilitytotake vital signs,I alsowastrainedforoperatingthe frontoffice,answering
phones,filing,makingappointmentsforpatients,handlingprivaterecordsunderthe HIPPA law. I
workedasa depositservice representativeforabank and wastrustedwithdutiessuchas:teller,
transferringmoneytoandfromaccounts. While workingthere Ientereddataforloansintothe
computerandworkedas the mail person. These experienceshave strengthenedmyfiscal management
skills.
In May 1026, I will graduate fromOhioUniversityand while inmylastsemester,Iplanto pursue toan
internshipwiththe local healthdepartment. Mydreamjobis to workas a RegisteredSanitarian,or
HealthInspector. My careergoalsfor the future are to work as a RegisteredSanitarianinone of the
many nearby countiesandI wouldlike togive the label HealthInspectoranew perspective. Whenone
thinksof a HealthInspectornegative thoughtsfill theirmind. Iwantto change that witha positive
attitude.

2. I feel thatI wouldmake anexcellentRegisteredSanitarianbecause of mypastexperiencesinworking
withthe publicof all ages. I have an outgoingpersonalitywithapositive attitude onlife andthiswillbe
reflectedinmyprofession. Ihave developedpersonableskillswhileworkingwiththe publicthatIfind
valuable forthe positionthatIdesire.
