in 2007 and traces in game incidents, league
expansion, the MLS draft and many other topics
that have to do with MLS. His writing brings light
to the many issues within the league that are
not posted on websites like Sports Illustrated or
ESPN.

– The Professional Referee Organization provides referees
for MLS. This website can offer students a different

– ESPN FC is the soccer portion of the ESPN website. This
offers news in the league as far back as 2000. This can be a
good site for primary sources about the league. It is similar
to what MLSsoccer.com offers.

14. Uses of the Internet: Primary Sources
• Eye Witness History
– This website is perfect for history students in the
older grades. This website allows students to get
out of the textbook and see real primary source
material. I searched “soccer” and came up with an
article about soccer in the trenches. Although this
does not focus on the History of Major League
soccer, it does focus on the history of soccer as a
whole. This can give students a greater
perspective. The ability to analyze primary
sources is essential to history.

– This website is a good starting point for
information. I used an earlier clip about David
Beckham so I searched him to find other
information about him. This information could be
used to introduce the topic. This website is a
better option than Wikipedia!
16. Web 2.0: Annotate.net
• Annotate allows the teacher to be completely
mobile in the classroom. Students can access
PowerPoint's or other imported material. Also,
a teacher can monitor students on there
computers and also have the remote desktop
feature. The major benefit of this app is that it
allows the teacher to move freely around the
room while still having access to the technology
to help students.

• Twiducate is a private social network that a teacher can
set up for the students to collaborate with them.
Twiducate allows students to practice there social
networking skills in a safe environment. This app gives
teachers the control over what gets posted, therefore,
it is safer than Twitter or Facebook. Teachers also have
the ability to post presentations and assignments.
Mr. Epperley offers tons of information on the league as he has inside access due to his media position with MLSsoccer.com. Students can access his blog to find the more hidden issues of the league.

The podcast linked is an example of what a student could find. This podcast is about the firing of New York Red Bulls coach Mike Petke after two winning seasons. This is just a sample of what a student could find. These podcasts are well titled so if a student was looking up a specific issue in the league they could easily find a podcast that relates.

This is a YouTube video about David Beckham coming to Major League Soccer. One of the topics in this lesson will be the growth of the league. David Beckham was a huge soccer star that jumpstarted the growth of the league through his own popularity. Students can watch this video in terms of what he did for MLS as he played a major role.
The component using Kidspiration I decided to make was an organizer. I have done research on this topic myself and the most difficult part is to keep all of the information organized. In order to do this, I have created a chart that students can fill in throughout the lesson in order to keep the information organized. I titled the columns to what I feel is the best way to categorize the information. This will enhance the students understanding on this topic as they will be able to clearly see all of the information they know. Information will not be lost of left out because it is organized on this chart. This can be used for a lecture or for a students own research. This organizer will enhance the students understanding as it will keep there knowledge organized.
This is a worksheet that a student could use after a lecture. Where the red writing is would be blank as this is an example of a “filled out” worksheet. This worksheet shows that the way MLS expands is a cycle. This worksheet was created in Microsoft Word.
This is a crossword puzzle that I made using the website The Teachers Corner. The website is very good as it allows you to download the puzzle as a PDF. This puzzle can be used as a fun way to test the students knowledge of the topic.

This worksheet came from teach-nology.com. It can be very helpful to sort out how MLS started. It will sort out all of the basic details needed to understand all that went into the inception of Major League soccer. This is just one example of a worksheet. This website has many other worksheets that can be used to teach this lesson.
This game comes from the Smart Exchange website. The description is, “Mind Soccer is a fast, fun review game suited for any grade level. All you will need is a list of questions for review! Your students will be clamoring to play!” Since the teacher gets to make the questions, they can be difficult or easy and pertain to any subject. The idea that the game is soccer works well with the topic. This game can be used as a study game.
This website allows you to search what ever topic you need. I came up with 25 matches when I searched soccer. The article about the history of soccer would work very well for this lesson as it gets students in the mindset of that there can be a history of sports.

For this topic, this app would be helpful as it allows the teacher to stay in touch with what the students are doing. The remote desktop and watching of the students can be very helpful as it may seem like many of the students are not doing the work based on what is on there screen at a quick glance. The screen sharing allows the teacher to fully investigate what the student is doing.
