The study assessed the nutrition knowledge, eating habits, and perception of coronary heart disease (CHD) risk in 20 African American female college students between ages 18-24. Results showed their fruit and vegetable consumption was below recommendations, most ate fast food regularly, and over half were overweight or obese despite 90% perceiving themselves as normal weight. While 65% knew some CHD risk factors, most felt their risk was low despite family histories. The study concludes targeted education is needed to correct risk perception and promote healthier diets to reduce CHD in this high-risk group.
