Polusi Udara
Oleh Ozon (O3)
Bila ozon berkontak dengan
permukaan bahan maka ia dapat
cepat mengeluarkan energi kimia
yang kuat. Bila hal ini terjadi pada
jaringan biologik terutama saluran
nafas, energi ini akan
menyebabkan kerusakan pada
jaringan yang sensitif tersebut baik
pada saluran nafas
bagian atas (trachea) maupun
bagian bawah (paru-paru).

Standar konsentrasi di udara telah ditentukan di
Amerika yaitu 0,08 ppm akan mengganggu kesehatan
bila kondisi tersebut berlanjut sampai 8 jam, efeknya
ialah:
Mengiritasi hidung dan tenggorokan
Pada beberapa saat menimbulkan sakit
pada dada dan sulit untuk mengambil
nafas dalam-dalam.
Meningkatkan ekskresi mukus pada
saluran nafas sehingga
menimbulkan batuk berdahak

Badan proteksi lingkungan (EPA) menentukan standar kualitas
kandungan CO di udara berdasarkan hasil penelitian epidemiologi
toksisitas CO. Konsentrasi karbon monoksida harus tidak
melebihi 9 ppm selam 8 jam berturut-turut dan tidak boleh
melebihi 20 ppm dalam periode waktu 1 jam.

orang menghirup udara yang
mengandung CO rendah (5-6 ppm) tetapi
berlangsung lama, sehingga kandungan
CO dalam darahnya juga rendah. Hal tersebut
dapat berlangsung berhari-hari, bulan,
bahkan bertahun-tahun.

Mekasnisme Toksisitas Karbon Monoksida
CO dihirup dan akan
menempel pada hemoglobin
darah (COHb)
Didalam paru, CO terikat
dengan sel darah merah
pada tempat
dimana oksigen biasanya
terikat.
Darah membawa sel darah
yang didistribusikan
kesemua jaringan, tetapi dia
tidak dapat mendistribusikan
O2, sehingga jaringan akan
kekurangan O2.
Sel dalam jaringan tersebut
tersebut akan mati (nekrosis).
Lama hidup dari sel darah
adalah 120 hari, sehingga ia
akan diganti oleh sel darah
baru (dari sumsum tulang).

mual, muntah dan kolaps
40 – 50 Mirip seperti diatas, kecenderungan terjadi kolaps sangat pasti,
denyut nadi cepat, laju respirasi juga meningkat.
50 – 60 Pulsus nadi dan laju respirasi meningkat, konvulsi intermiten
60 – 70 Koma, konvulsi intermiten, dan mungkin kematian
70 – 80

Pemanasan pada permukaan Bumi berawal dari
sinar matahari yang menembus lapisan udara
(atmosfer) dan memanasi permukaan Bumi.

gas tersebut sebenarnya muncul secara
alami di lingkungan, tetapi dapat juga
timbul akibat aktifitas manusia.

Sebuah komputer yang menyala selama 24 jam sehari
menyumbangkan 1 ton (1000 kg) gas CO2 ke atmosfer setiap
tahunnya, sementara kendaraan bermotor yang menempuh jarak
16.000 km dan menghabiskan bahan bakar 1200 liter dan
menyumbangkan 3 juta ton (3.000.000.000 kg) CO2 ke udara.
Dan lebih parah lagi, pembakaran hutan yang sekarang banyak
terjadi di Indonesia ternyata menyumbang CO2 lima kali lebih
banyak dari sumber-sumber yang lain. Padahal, hilangnya hutan
berarti juga hilangnya pepohonan yang dapat menyerap CO2 di
udara. Belum lagi penggunaan AC, proses industri, penggunaan
pupuk, bahkan pembusukan sampah pun menghasilkan gas
rumah kaca.

• Mengganti lampu bohlam biasa dengan lampu fluorescent yang
hemat energi
• Membeli dan menggunakan produk-produk daur ulang - Membuat

Selain berfungsi mencegah global warming, juga memperindah
rumah, halaman dan lingkungan.
• Membangun rumah dengan banyak jendela agar AC idak diperlukan. -
Mencabut semua kabel elektronik (TV, DVD player, charger telepon,
dsb) ketika tidak digunakan.
• Mematikan lampu ketika meninggalkan ruangan
• Mengerinhkan pakaian tanpa alat pengering, cukup dengan panas
matahari.
• Menggunakan sobekan kertas bekas untuk packing, daripada
menggunakan Styrofoam.

Di Kantor
- Mematikan monitor komputer ketika tidak
digunakan lebih dari 20 menit.
- Mencetak tulisan pada kedua sisi kertas. Di
perkuliahan dalam memasukkan tugas makalah
lebih baik melalui internet atau menggunakan
CD.
- Menggunakan tangga, bukan eskalator atau lift
paling tidak sampai pada lantai ketiga. Selain
mengurangi karbon, tubuh anda menjadi sehat.

Saat Berkendara
- Mengajak orang yang tujuannya searah naik
bersama-sama
- Menggunakan transportasi umum seperti bus atau
kereta, daripada mengendarai mobil atau motor
sendirian ke kantor.
- Mematikan mesin mobil jika berhenti lebih dari satu
menit.
- Hindari jalan macet. Selain mengurangi penggunaan
bahan bakar, anda juga terhindar dari stres
- Mempertimbangkan saat yang tepat untuk
menggunakan AC mobil
- Menurunkan barang yang tidak diperlukan dari
bagasi, untuk efisiensi penggunaan bahan bakar. -
Mengendarai sepeda atau jalan kaki untuk menuju
jarak yang dekat.

Saat Berbelanja
- Membawa tas belanja sendiri untuk mengurangi
penggunaan kantong plastik.
- Memilih produk yang dapat diisi ulang
- Berbelanja di tempat yang paling dekat rumah dan
sekaligus dalam jumlah yang banyak untuk menghemat
bahan bakar, tenaga dan waktu.

1. Mengeluarkan kebijakan yang berwawasan lingkungan seperti kajian
AMDAL yang benar untuk setiap pembangunan kawasan industri dan
bisnis. Selain itu, adanya tata ruang yang tepat yang merepresentatifkan
daerah hutan dan penyerapan air yang lebih luas.
2. Law enforcement yang lebih kuat. Seperti pembebasan daerah aliran
sungai dari pemukiman, perbaikan daerah aliran sungai, hukuman
terhadap pelaku illegal logging (penebangan hutan) dan sebagainya.
3. Penetapan standar emisi buangan dan tindakan pengawasannya. Tidak
mengijinkan kendaraan yang emisinya lebih dari standar yang ada.
4. Pembuatan perumahan yang secara vertikal atau rumah susun. Hal ini
mengurangi pembebasan lahan dan mengurangi pembabatan daerah
hutan atau pepohonan.
5. Mengalokasikan dana ke sektor pelestarian lingkungan seperti
penghijauan, pembuatan taman atau hutan di tengah kota, penanaman
bakau di daerah pantai dan sebagainya.
