WHY IS PDHPE IMPORTANT IN
PRIMARY SCHOOLS?
PDHPE is essential to primary schools as it
educates children about how to safely obtain a
healthy lifestyle while enjoying life.
 Children will learn to:
 Be active
 Be safe
 Be healthy
 Think positively.. all in a supportive environment.
ACTIVE KIDS ARE HEALTHY KIDS
 Children are given the opportunity to interact and
move around by playing games and sports.
 They develop fundamental movement skill.
 Learn a variety of new skills and by playing competitive,
invasion, formal, strike and field and ball games.
 Develop interpersonal relationships and social skills through
working together to achieve a common goal.
MAKE CHOICES TO LIVE SAFELY
 In order to make the best choices in life, children
must be educated about them, and be aware of the
consequences.
 Students develop life skills to benefit their own safety, and the
safety of those around them.
 They learn how their decisions can impact their environment
E.g. Smoking or recycling.
 Children should be aware of the dangers of substances they
may be exposed to, and know how and why to avoid them.
OPTIMAL GROWTH AND DEVLEOPMENT
 Children will learn their nutritional needs and what
is involved in a balanced diet.
 They become familiar with how diet and exercise are they key
to optimal growth and skeletal development.
 Children learn to take responsibility for their health choices
and understand benefits and risks associated to the choices
they make. E.g. obesity
POSITIVE ATTITUDES
 Children learn how to combat the changes in life
with a positive mind.
 They develop resilience and coping strategies.
 Children develop a healthy well being, self esteem and sense of
self worth.
 Benefits children’s social and emotional well-being.
